Rabbits seem to approve of their new hutch. As much as I like these projects, next year I'd like a little more time to do the growing and caring and harvesting, and less of the building.

The shiitake on giant oak totem didn't have a thick enough spawn layer. But the blue oyster on beech was a SUCCESS 😃😃
Gonna call this a failure

Pigs are on the way to the butcher and I am dissatisifed with myself. I should've started them on the polywire. They never respected it and I was unable to move their paddock. I should've replaced the junky self-feeder. I built a half-barrel feeder and was soaking their feed in
Note to future self: just use the polywire.

whey from our cheese-making, but it wasn't enough to grow them at a decent rate. I should've built a ramp and gotten them used to it. Getting them on the trailer should be easy. And lastly, I should've given more scritches.

Think I'll have to break down and get a coffee maker. This works fine for one cup but takes so long to trickle through the grounds when making multiple. 25+ minutes kills the momentum for what should be a productive weekend.

You ever look at your coffee cup but it's empty and then you're a little sad?

I never count my likes. I write because I feel like I have something to say, and I feel enough at home on this weird mangy little hellsite that I don't feel too pretentious about sharing it
Why the fuck do you keep tweeting with 0 likes

This account supports: -18 y/o drinking age -Permanent Standard Time -Summer Vacation from Memorial day to Labor Day -Constitutional Amendment protecting Federal Public Lands from sale and forbidding any user fees.
Why does nobody campaign on lowering the drinking age to 18 18-20 year olds can vote! 16 is where you get into difficult politics

Wrong time of year to go hacking new paddock paths. Plant app says these scratchy hitchhikers are pigweed / redroot amaranth. Miserable things.

There's any number of ways to define what counts as homesteading. But looking at the list of crap ingredients in four different brands of orange marmalade gave me the urge to make it myself and that's probably the best criteria I've considered.

Regarding homesteading: I love it here. I love having the option to grow whatever I want. I love seeing the physical product of my labor and knowing it will make our lives more beautiful and efficient. I love the dream that a little work in the morning and evening will keep

everything spinning, with content animals and lush plants, and food spilling over like an afterthought. I also recognize that it will never be as convenient or simple or frugal as staying in town would have been. Cost schedule quality, pick any 2, right? Well our budget isn't

very flexible and we don't want to compromise on quality (ethics, variety, etc) so it's our time that we give. And sometimes that's a hard trade. But I'd rather my kids and wife see me happy and hard-working than filling my free time with some form of consumption.
