It might be a problem for a league when a team feels like they have to put out a statement practically apologizing and offering consolations for an opposing player not being available for a game. This is pretty weird.
Every now and then, I'm still shocked that this is the UX that the prevailing business model for online media has forced itself into. You can just about read one line of text in between an ad and a push notification modal.
Not picking on FastCo in particular here btw — almost every ad-supported site is guilty of this. I just happened to be reading the start of @clintrainey & @KathleenEDavis's excellent investigative series on Trade Joe's this AM! You should too:

Two years ago, ProPublica investigated RealPage for its role in helping landlords use algorithms to set rent prices.
Today, the DOJ has sued the company, accusing it of taking part in an illegal price-fixing scheme.

Telegram isn’t a censorship-resistant platform (like Signal or Zcash), it’s a weapon. Because tricking people into thinking they have privacy while you spy upon them is taking power over them. Power that nation states will then want. 🔚
Now THAT'S a Napoli goal. Outrageous assist from Kvara. Fantastic third man run from Raspadori to clear out the defender for DiLo.
Love that the back 3 isn't keeping DiLo from getting up the pitch.
Italian men's volleyball players wearing gold chains while spiking volleyballs is the most Italian thing I've ever seen

OG Bitcoiner and Etherean here. Here's your reminder that crypto is not here to make us rich, it is here to make us free. Decentralization matters. DeFi matters.
To my Bitcoin Maxis friends, you spent the last 5-7 years spreading that Ethereum was some sort of sell out, and yet your movement is being run by people who want the world's most important assets under the control of index funds that fundamentally hate decentralization and composability.
To my long time friends, I wish you could see that the legacy financial system loves that Bitcoin is less composable. They want these assets stored with the big banks. They hate DeFi. Please, please rediscover your radicalism.
All the positive sentiment around Blackrock here at Bitcoin Nashville is frightening.
“Larry [Fink] deserves a lot of credit,” Robert Mitchnick said. “He’s a thought leader in the space.”
There is a toxic romance happening between crypto and Blackrock.
One prides itself on self-custody and decentralization, but the other? The rising centralized power threatening to destroy the American middle-class.
For those of us who know how Blackrock pulls the strings of virtually every industry in our country, well; we all just have to sit here and awkwardly watch as conference speakers try to reassure us that everything’s okay behind the scenes.
It’s not.
Blackrock, State Street, and Vanguard own 80% of the S&P 500. They are intent on turning us into a “rental” instead of “ownership” economy.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. put it best:
“BlackRock owns the processed food companies that are poisoning us, and they own the pharmaceutical companies that are making $4.3 trillion a year treating the chronic disease they’re causing with the food.
BlackRock owns all the military contractors—General Dynamics, Northrup Grumman, Boeing, Lockheed, etc—that are destroying all the ports and bridges and schools and roads in Ukraine, and they also have the contracts for rebuilding Ukraine.
By the way, [the media] are all ultimately owned by BlackRock, too.”
Blackrock is buying up single family homes at unprecedented rates. More wealth has been siphoned to the upper 1% in the last three years than all of human civilization combined.
And here we are, hoping they won’t mess up our one true shot at a decentralized financial system.
Doesn’t sit well does it?
