Footnote is live ! ๐Ÿš€
Most indie makers are sitting on space they never use. The footer. The end of a blog post. The docs sidebar. Footnote turns it into promotion: show other makers' products, earn credits, get yours seen. Waitlist is open, link in the reply. What's in your footer?

Back in 2018, open source changed my life. It gave me opportunities, a community, and a chance to build something that people around the world could use. But there was a problem: it wasn't sustainable for me to do open source full-time. And I still wish I could. I know I'm not the only one. Across Africa, there are developers and maintainers building libraries, frameworks, tools, and infrastructure that deserve more recognition and financial support. So I built something for us. Introducing flossafrica.com. A platform making it easier for open-source creators and maintainers in Africa to get discovered, receive sponsorships, and sustain the work they do. You get visibility. Your projects get a place to be discovered. And patrons can support your work without jumping through hoops. Powered by @bachs_hq Connect, maintainers receive 100% of the money patrons sponsor, accessible same day for Naira sponsorships. No complicated funding process. Just people supporting the software that makes the internet, businesses, and our communities work. I believe Africa needs both: โ†’ Builders creating profitable products. Find them on pairlore.com. โ†’ Builders creating the open-source foundations and critical software that others depend on. Both deserve a place in Africa's technology story. @flossafrica is for the second group. If you're an African open-source maintainer, I'd love to see what you're building, go add your projects and setup your account to receive funds. And if you believe open source deserves better support on the continent, go fund a maintainer on FLOSSAfrica or at the very least, help me spread the word. Open source changed my life. I want to help make it sustainable for the next generation of African builders.

I still can't believe that there are devs that have not heard about DB Mover. It's just like writing code without AI in big 2026
Spent some time exploring DB Mover, a tool built by @jc_coder1 for making database migrations and backups much easier. ๐Ÿ‘€ It takes away a lot of the CLI/command-line friction around moving data and gives you a simple interface with live migration logs. Did a quick product review and shared my thoughts on it. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ ๐Ÿ”— dbmover.cloud/

True, they should leave the field blank let me type the number myself @OPay_NG @OPayNigeria
I think OPay should stop using the phone number used to open an account as the default number for buying airtime and data. Iโ€™ve lost a lot of money because of this. Anytime I try to buy airtime or data from my OPay app, I often forget to change it, only to realize later that it was sent to the default number. A number I no longer have access to.

Sailsconf began online. We took that energy to Sailsconf Africa. Now, weโ€™re bringing the community back togetherโ€”wherever you are. #Sailsconf2026 is coming October 22nd - 25th, and it will be a celebration of talks from Africa and globally.

luna and terra are too slow
Demand for Astra is really unprecedented. We're pulling all the levers possible to sustain the demand, but I've not seen anything like it until now and we went through very steep growth before. Priority will always be to keep excellent service for existing users, but we might have to pause new Pro subscriptions for a bit if this continues.

the more i think about this, the more i realize it's not just "africa doesn't pay" we have deeper issues around purchasing power, free-first behavior, trust in local products, access to capital, distribution, and the pressure to monetize quickly because we're trying to survive. again, african builders don't lack talent, but we need to get better at turning these constraints into an advantage or getting them resolved, whichever comes first. i really do not know how. i've seen great africa developers build genuinely useful stuff, only for those projects to go stale, stop being talked about, and eventually stop being used. and if we don't solve this, i worry we'll keep losing talent to economies that are more attractive to builders, where they have the opportunity to experiment, build things people actually pay for, and get rewarded for their ideas. we need to figure this out, we don't have time and we're already behind.
Is "building for Africa" becoming a trap? Build for the local market and you may struggle to monetize. Build for the global market and suddenly you have a much bigger opportunity, but reaching that audience from Africa is another problem. Even open source isn't as common and successful here in Africa. Not necessarily because Africans can't build, but because projects often struggle to get adopted, find the right audience, or gain enough visibility. And I don't think it's a talent problem. Survival puts pressure on us all to turn our time into income. We're building, but we're also trying to eat and survive. Maybe the real challenge isn't talent. It's building for a market that can pay, while figuring out how to get that market to notice you and understand your value.

Most hosts sell you 99.9% uptime. What I needed was simpler: โ€œWeโ€™ll tell you the second something breaks.โ€ A few weeks ago, dbmover.cloud went down. I found out late. That wasnโ€™t a pricing problem. It was a trust problem. I posted about it, and Jesse Josiah (@_fusionTech), founder of @StackshiftCloud, reached out. He offered to move DB Mover onto StackShift Cloudโ€™s infrastructure. They gave me a bigger VPS, covered the first month, and subsidized the rest. The upgrade was great. But what really sold me was a founder showing up publicly within a day. The migration is complete. DB Mover has been solid since. Pick your host by how they respond when something goes wrong, not just by the specs on the pricing page. Thank you, Jesse. Looking for a VPS? Check out stackshift.cloud
