Ashu and Saurav have been sent to 5 days judicial custody. Their fault? Unfurling tricolour at Jantar Mantar. Show some guts, @narendramodi. If you’re so determined to crush dissent, have the courage to officially declare an Emergency instead of hiding behind these cowardly tactics.

@CPBlr Please look into this and ensure that the right to peaceful protest is protected.

What a country we have become! A big shout-out to all the young lawyers who ensure the release of all detainees every evening! This fight goes on because we do not fight it alone. Journalists reporting the truth despite unlawful repression, lawyers holding the police to the law, lakhs and lakhs of first-time protesters fighting tooth and nail, giving actual blood to keep democracy alive.

Today, Modi denotified Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site. Tomorrow, he will denotify democracy itself. The dictator’s problem was never the protest site. It was the very idea of people protesting.

.Sirs @mdbescom @thekjgeorge We demand an urgent safety audit of all transformers in our service areas to prevent another tragedy with immediate corrective action & accountability. No worker or citizen should have to risk their life because of preventable electrical hazards.2/2

Got inspired by @caleb_friesen to make a video on the poor condition of Haralur Main Road This stretch is right in the middle of Cambridge international school and National public school, and it pains me that this is the infrastructure we are able to offer to the future gen

In March, I landed at Navi Mumbai Airport on a Saturday with no peak-hour rush on transit or traffic. And travelling to my parents house 28 km in suburbs just took me a seamless journey of 1 hour 45 minutes, as cabs refused to take trips via apps and wanted 2x the price. So I don’t know why international airlines are complaining to shift, all their passenger carrying 23kg checkin bags will have wheels which they can drag between seamless 600-700m transit interchange and crowded suburban trains.
After 30 years of planning, Navi Mumbai Airport opened in 2025 without NO REAL RAPID TRANSIT LINK. The nearest rail station is 3.2 km away with commuter trains every 60 minutes, the other station is 8.3km away, crowds heavily, and both require unreliable shuttle buses to access. No cabs were ready to take any trips In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, transport has become a massive struggle by design. Bad planning is now a norm.

I want to humble remind everyone that the first such instance happened in 2023 in Shivaji Nagar when Form 7s were given for 23000 odd people. @ArshadRizwan fought back, around 15000 names were retained
If a person goes to the election commission and submits 200 forms to delete the names of voters, the EC doesn't ask - how did this person, who is not part of the official election machinery, determine that these 200 people should not be on the roll? Would anyone really spend their time going door to door to find such a thing, document it and bring it to the EC? Or is it more likely that this is a fraudulent attempt to disenfranchise a targeted set of people? In our system, this kind of submission is 'permissible', which is itself foolish. But is it not also criminal to make such submissions, especially without the knowledge of people being deleted? @DKShivakumar's protest yesterday was on target to point this out. But why wait for the EC, which is anyway compromised? Those submitting such forms should be charged by the police too @PriyankKharge

So BLOs will first compare pre-SIR and post-SIR lists, again visit houses of those deleted but eligible and re-enroll them through Form 6 and all this within a month. Most of them are school teachers. Shall we officially shut down the schools

I am so happy that some residences of Shivaji park are getting sensitive about the noise pollution and asking the authorities to cancel the protest of CJP today at Shivaji park . I am hundred percent sure that they will raise the same objection with the same intensity if not more when ever there is any jalsa of any political party of Maharashtra is planned at Shivaji park ,

The widest-reaching impact of @IndianExpress' Election Commission investigation yet. 10 days after our investigation into the rupture inside the Election Commission, the poll watchdog has told all 20 states where SIR is over to run a “special drive” to bring back voters “left out” of the rolls. State CEOs have been told to identify voters deleted as unmapped or for “logical discrepancy” and that BLOs should go house to house to help bring them back. They will use Form 6 to apply for inclusion of such “left out” voters. And the question added to Form 6 in July, asking whether your parents were on the last SIR roll, which one Commissioner called “unauthorised/illegal,” now applies only during the “SIR phase.” What does that mean? In the 20 states where SIR is over, “left out” voters and first-time voters will use the plain statutory Form 6, without the question seeking details of their family’s link to the last SIR. It's been heartening to see our investigation into the inner workings of the Election Commission travel so far this week. Thank you for reading, sharing, arguing with it. Now the harder ask. Work like this takes months, and it doesn't happen on its own. If you believe there should be someone reading the notes nobody else reads, asking the questions nobody answers, and reporting what they find, fairly and accurately, however uncomfortable, then this is the moment to say so. Subscribe to @IndianExpress. It costs less than your daily coffee at Starbucks ☕️. LINK: indianexpress.com/express-pl…

Read “Deep rot,” today’s lead editorial in The Hindu: thehindu.com/opinion/editori… Electoral fraud is not uncommon in electoral democracies. But the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) conducted by the Election Commission of India under the authoritarian and arrogant reign of Gyanesh Kumar belongs to a special species. It is now beyond dispute that the SIR done in several States, and worst of all in West Bengal, has inflicted a grievous and seemingly irreparable wound on India’s electoral democracy. The revelation that Chief Election Commissioner Kumar pushed through decisions related to the SIR without the knowledge, let alone consent, of the two other Election Commissioners shows arbitrariness and lawlessness of the worst kind. The Indian Express must be commended for its investigation, which has exposed how deep and how high the rot has gone into the electoral system. Unfortunately, when the scandal of the ongoing SIR was taken to the Supreme Court of India in the expectation that it would act to uphold the constitutional guarantee of universal adult franchise, the highest court in the land failed the big test. Gyanesh Kumar must resign. An impeachment motion to remove the CEC is unlikely to make headway, given the numbers in the Lok Sabha. If Gyanesh Kumar, with the backing of the Union government, decides to brazen it out, mass democratic protest will be the only way to force him out.

Three independent journalists reported extensively on the deaths of tribal children in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat. Then they were surveilled, followed, questioned, pressured and intimidated. Eventually, their Instagram accounts vanished. @AbhishekSay altnews.in/mp-bhalaghat-deat…
