Andy Burnham has rejected former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's call for an independent inquiry into the UK Government’s complicity in Israel’s Gaza genocide. Corbyn wrote to Burnham, asking him to back his Private Member's Bill for a Chilcot-style inquiry and would investigate the UK Government’s military, economic or political co-operation with Israel since its onslaught on Gaza began in October 2023. Starmer had previously rejected the idea of an inquiry, with the UK Government also confirming in response to a written question on Monday that their position remains unchanged under Burnham. Corbyn added: “The Government has been complicit in this widespread suffering, and has wilfully attempted to block our efforts to expose the truth.”
