Reading Java to Kotlin from @natpryce and @duncanmcg and I have to say it’s pretty awesome. Totally recommend it! It has refactoring tips, functional programming insight and a few Kotlin tidbits you might have skimmed over or didn’t think about them!

Stumbled across this oldie but goodie thread; nice to see @java_to_kotlin get a mention. Adding a bunch of these others to my TBR pile.

Thank you so much to @natpryce and @duncanmcg for sending me not only a copy of their book, but a signed one. Definitely going to be reading it again.
The design principles we describe in “Java to Kotlin” are independent of the language version. However, details of the code & refactorings will become outdated as the language and tooling evolves.
We are documenting the changes on the book’s website

Re-reading the first chapter of @duncanmcg & @natpryce's Java to Kotlin and really enjoying thinking about the "grain" of a programming language learning.oreilly.com/library…

ALT Like wood, a programming language has a grain. In both carpentry and programming, when you work with the grain, things go smoothly. When you work against the grain, things are more difficult. When you work against the grain of a programming language, you have to write more code than necessary, performance suffers, you are more likely to introduce defects, you usually have to override convenient defaults, and you have to fight against the tooling every step of the way. Going against the grain involves constant effort with an uncertain payoff.
