I was interviewing a young lady this morning who graduated with a Second Class Lower degree. She insisted that she was smart.
I then asked her, “If you are smart, why did you graduate with a Second Class Lower?”
She suddenly broke down in tears.
I asked her why she was crying, and she explained that she lost her mother in her first year at university and her father in her second year.
The emotional trauma affected her concentration, and she struggled to complete her education while dealing with the pain of losing both parents.
I will give her a chance to prove herself.
But this experience has left me with a troubling question:
Does our education system make adequate provisions for young people who go through such devastating experiences?
How many brilliant young people have we written off because their grades failed to reflect their true abilities, without ever asking what they went through?

Replying to @inecnigeria
@inecnigeria has disregarded the Electoral Act by failing to publish the voters’ register online for public scrutiny, even after the statutory 90-day deadline has passed.
Am I overthinking this? Because I am genuinely struggling to understand what is happening in Nigeria.
@inecnigeria has disregarded the Electoral Act by failing to publish the voters’ register online for public scrutiny, even after the statutory 90-day deadline has passed.
Even under Mahmood Yakubu, the register was published online, with a mechanism for complaints and objections.
Today, NOTHING!
And somehow, the country has moved on like nothing happened.
WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE?
Apart from @ARISEtv and @fijnigeria, where is the Nigerian media?
Where are @YIAGA, @EUinNigeria @EU_SDGN , @NDI and the other civil society organisations?
@NigeriaNDCHQ .@ADCNig ARE YOU PEOPLE SLEEPING? Are you actually preparing for this election?
This is the voters’ register we are talking about. THE VERY FOUNDATION OF AN ELECTION!
INEC has effectively said, “To hell with public scrutiny. Do your worst.”
And our collective response is SILENCE.
I am genuinely pained.
We complain about electoral malpractice and compromised institutions, yet when it is time to demand accountability BEFORE an election, everybody suddenly goes quiet.
Must we wait until votes are cast and results are disputed before we start shouting?
Seriously, am I the only one who finds this silence deeply disturbing?

I think one of the reasons so many Nigerians hate math is that we were taught to “memorize” it without necessarily understanding the logic behind ideas. This makes me a little sad cos the whole purpose of learning math is to develop mathematical thinking.
Math is not just a collection of formulas and rules to memorize. It is a way of reasoning about the world. Learning it should teach us to recognize patterns quicker, question assumptions, follow logical arguments, solve unfamiliar problems in real life.
We were taught that a negative number multiplied by a negative number gives a positive number. We memorised it, and moved on. Not many of us were ever shown why this is true. And so, so many more instances.
The role of math is crucial to a nation’s development. No country that seeks to advance scientifically and technologically ignores the importance of Mathematics in its educational system.
In the last few months, I’ve been teaching kids math for free and this is one of the things that have brought me the most fulfillment yet, cos I know for a fact, what it can do for a child’s development.

Working on a mental wellness platform focused on helping people between the age of 18-45 to navigate stress. While researching, I discovered that only 1 out of 200 young Nigerians knows a mental wellness app. So I don't think a mental wellness app can sell in a Nigerian msrket

i’ve been putting in 12 hour workdays, on average, for the last 6 years to highly increase my odds for success.
that’s just one part of the equation. i found out that luck and timing are more important factors despite that hard work being a prerequisite.
you do your part, you trust the universe to do its part.

What coding for 7months has taught me so far
1. You don’t need to memorize everything
2. Errors are part of development
3. Documentation Matters
4. Building exposes what tutorials hide(This is so true)
5. Consistency beats motivation
6. Code with AI, but understand what you’re coding
