Finalizing grades for 600 students sucks. But sometimes a bit of joy arrives just when you need it. So thanks to my student Alex Trinh and his Intro to Python final project: an 8bit battle game with me as the final boss! (skip ahead to about 35 sec on the vid)

Tinpot dictator stuff: @UCSanDiego labels a peaceful protest as assault, threatens striking grad students with expulsion. If you are @UofCalifornia employee or student sign the petition quoted tweeted. If you are faculty please also sign our petition too: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

Interesting result. Informative and collegial comment from @EMostaque on this thread shows that Stability AI takes this seriously and is working to make things better. Kudos! Sharing because we just discussed bias in my class and students should see how the sausage is made.
🚨Generative AI has a serious problem with bias🚨
Over months of reporting, @dinabass and I looked at thousands of images from @StableDiffusion and found that text-to-image AI takes gender and racial stereotypes to extremes worse than in the real world.

Last year I had a student project group get interested in whether WFH was something graduating seniors were seeking in picking their careers. Will have to go find the project report later and see what the outcome of their surveys and analysis actually were.

a student shared that they create a study guide, show it to chatGPT, and ask it to generate practice exam questions. It can generate tons of questions for them to quiz themselves.
Seems like a pretty good use of chatGPT to support student learning!

Woke up today hopeful and thinking: why not San Diego? Is there a market in this country better equipped to support top division men’s and women’s soccer, a second division men’s team, and multiple boys and girls academies?
I sometimes wonder if we could get rid of all these Overton window assholes by actually giving them what they claim to want. Then I think of the poor students and faculty and I realize that fantasy of mine must remain a fantasy.
Here is my open letter about the San Diego MLS expansion. TL;DR if they don't care about our community and developing players, and if they don't coordinate with or involve @SanDiegoLoyal they are DOA to me @thesoccerdon @SycuanChairman @TheLocalsSG @sdut jgfleischer.com/blog/2023/ML…
Just a reminder to principals of the San Diego MLS bid @SycuanChairman @thesoccerdon @jdwicker and the journalists covering it like @sdutzeigler @andy_keatts that there's literally thousands of hard core fans, the kind who bring other people to the table, that have been left out
The messaging at the game yesterday was quiet on what conversations Loyal had with the bid. But having @WiReD619 and @landondonovan giving messages before the game along the lines of "looking forward to doing more of this in the future" is pretty clear they aren't going away.
Two curves actually the same thing. It's just that one philosophy is the run-away winner in this era

I am a lapsed Spurs supporter. My take on Daniel Levy and the managerial craziness at Tottenham is my story of not eating lunch with Levy circa 2009. I was working for Gerry Edelman, a Nobel laureate who was always glad handing rich people looking for research $$$… 🧵1/6
Or to put it another way: a chancer. The kind who tries lots of random stuff and knows what he’s going to actually pursue only when he finds himself doing it. Certainly not some strategic genius efficiently marshaling his resources according to a long term plan…
