Good take by @owentripp (CEO, @IncludedHealth) on the rise of point solutions If they are not integrated with others, the innovation in itself will further fracture healthcare in general "Integration is the innovation that counts now" statnews.com/2023/01/12/jpm-…

This excellent study adds further evidence that active surveillance is a safe - and perhaps more benevolent - treatment approach for low risk thyroid cancers. Surgery, although very safe in experienced hands, will have more risk. Shared decision making essential!
In this prospective trial of 222 thyroid cancer pts choosing active surveillance or surgery, pts were safely observed with expanded size (≤2cm) and growth (>5mm, >100% volume) parameters. Surgery/Surveillance pts exhibited oppositional levels of worry. bit.ly/3UeRnSI
Congratulations to @DrNeilGross and team on this exciting advance in caring for patients with advanced skin cancer. @MDAndersonNews
Another day at #ESMO22 another win for neoadjuvant immunotherapy. this time with stage II-IV cutaneous SCC. neoadjuvant cemiplimab induces 50.6% pathCR, 63.3% combined path response. Co-published @NEJM congrats @DrNeilGross @MDAndersonNews

Telehealth for new patients excels in specialties with narrow differential diagnosis and limited role for physical exam. Opportunities for improvement exist for those of us in #ENT.
Provisional diagnosis established over video telemedicine visits matched the in-person reference standard diagnosis in 87% of cases in study of 2393 patients with video telemedicine consult followed by in-person outpatient visit within 90 days. #OAResearch ja.ma/3cL5Tkc

New Harvard research on the traits that leaders need in a digital era. The so-called "soft" skills that aren't soft any more are critical. We need catalysts more than planners, leaders who love to explore & experiment & who can trust & let go: hbswk.hbs.edu/item/six-unexp… Via @HBSWK

As a healthcare provider, I am excited to partner with designers and engineers to realize these missions and ensure that the design of our ORs, hospitals, clinics, and at-home devices help us deliver more health to more people in need.
Now avail in OTO Open: Our review of the most important new #OHNS drugs and devices FDA approved in 2020. It was an honor to collaborate with this terrific team, keeping our #ENT community up-to-date with key practice-relevant information. @AAOHNS #MDDC

Advances in #Healthtech always lead to this fundamental truth about #DigitalHealth: it’s not just about the tech, but about how the humans and the tech interrelate, mutually inform, and work in tandem to jointly improve patient outcomes. Another good case in point:
"A robot doesn’t make a surgery a good surgery," says Cedars-Sinai's Dr. Alexander Tuchman about using the latest technology during surgery. "It takes an experienced, highly disciplined team, an experienced surgeon, and having all the resources available." ceda.rs/2Vaosp0

Key takeaways: 1. Complete #ultrasound assessment is critical to optimize pt experience, treatment approach, and outcomes
Now online @VEndocrinology: Ultrasonographic Anatomy in Radiofrequency Ablation of the Thyroid This video illustrated guide for #thyroid surgeons, endocrinologists, and IR helps define anatomy and avoid pt injury. Collab w/@StanfordThyroid @EndoHNSurgeon Dr Lisa Orloff @jashenson

2. Critical structures surrounding the thyroid including the recurrent laryngeal nerve, vagus nerve, and prominent blood vessels can be identified and thereby protected.

3. Becoming proficient in ultrasonographic anatomy allows identification of clinically significant anatomic variants such as the medial vagus nerve and non-recurrent laryngeal nerve.
