There is a real chicken and egg problem here. Same with Fuel Cell. So much has to change to reduce/elimate ICE vehicles.
My personal experience aligns with your hypothesis. Every trip that requires a mid-journey charge is a pain. For example both rapid chargers in Tyndrum are broken just now. Have been for weeks. Chargers north and south of them are busier as a result.
