Sad news just in. 🙏🏽
British-American Playwright and novelist #BonnieGreer has died aged 77. Her husband David Hutchins announced her death saying:
“It is with profound sadness that I announce that my beloved wife, Bonnie Greer, has died aged 77 after a brief illness.
“Bonnie was an acclaimed playwright, author, critic, cultural and political commentator whose intelligence, courage and distinctive voice made an enduring contribution to British cultural and public life."
Speaking in 2016 in the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter movement, Greer said: "When I wake up in the morning, I'm just myself. It's only when I leave the door that I become a black woman to the world."
She added: "I tell black women all the time, 'Don't apologise for yourself and keep your hair nappy. Make sure you are heard'."
Rest in Peace Bonnie Greer 💔

Condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Sad that he is no longer with us but celebrating a life that was clearly well lived. My heart smiles reading of all the positive impact and acts of kindness off air. Walk good Dervan 🙏🏾
Saddened to wake up to the news of the passing of former broadcaster, Dervan Malcolm. He died last night at the age of 50 after ailing for the past few years. In my early days in brodcasting, he taught me one of life's most valuable lessons: in the midst of failures under the pressure of strict deadlines you can be upset until the time passes or use the remaining time to fix the issues and get everything else right.
▫️Dervan read his first newscast on Power 106 FM on October 24, 1993 while he was still a student at Calabar High School. He remained at the station for more than 30 years as one of the most diverse broadcasters until he fell ill.
▫️He was producer for the popular show Laing and Company on Power 106FM and later carved out a niche for himself focusing his diverse career on the diaspora through his programme Both Sides of the Story and the Jamaican Diaspora Live on Line.
▫️Malcolm, a talented master of ceremonies, was great at imitating former prime ministers and often joked about his height but maintained that he was not short of anything.
#RIP mi bredrin

This year marks two significant milestones in Black British history. 🖤
Notting Hill Carnival celebrates its 60th anniversary, while The Voice marks 44 years since publishing its first edition.
The dates tell a shared story. ✨✨
A festival and a newspaper born from resilience.
To understand why the launch of The Voice at Carnival mattered, we must first understand how the event evolved....☺️

Every year some of you come on the internet to say Jab Jab is demonic.
You have had 365 days to read, research and learn.
But no, 365 days of nothing.
If you don’t understand something, then learn.
If you choose to be ignorant that’s on you.
I’m fundraising for King's College Hospital Charity. Check out my @JustGiving page and please donate if you can. Thank you! #JustGiving justgiving.com/fundraising/g…
