BUT, when the standards you enforce are rooted in the belief that your own child isn't entitled to what you are because of their orientation alone, you're less enforcing boundaries than bigotry.

AND because bigotry runs contrary to the *entire law* (Gal 5:13-14) and the sum of "the law and the prophets" (Matt 7:12), you have lost the moral and theological ground.

To be the house of God they must "amend their ways". God gets specific in vs 5-10: don't oppress the stranger, the poor, the widow. Don't steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, or "burn incense to baal". Thoroughly execute judgment between man and his neighbor.

In vs 4, God also highlights the false security they gain from their hypocritical chanting about the temple. And in 10, we're told they would break all of God's commandments then say "we are delivered to do all these abominations". The temple is little more than a lucky charm

Put another way, they fired me for doing what they hired me to teach other people to do - "abandon attitudes and actions of prejudice".

Among other things, it was further proof that the church values institutional genuflection more than fighting prejudice; comfort more than people. They gave me a seat at the table because of my expertise and experience, but dismissed me for suggesting their priorities were wrong.

It's well established at this point that Shawn is Cory's favorite person so much so that the homoerotic subtext of their friendship is a running gag throughout the later seasons and remains one of the best examples of this trope.

BYU will still be less than 1% Black, a school that white supremacists tried to recruit at, the school that investigated itself for racism and found it, and the school that removed anti-racism from its curriculum. BYU will still be this School: sltrib.com/news/education/20…

Utah will still be 1.5% Black, have a whole county that was investigated by the DoJ for racism, began after a Black girl took her own life over bullying, be the state that ran out their first Black Superintendent, and the state that gave us this exchange youtu.be/NzYNRFQ2R7s

At BYU (a university named after a racist), just in the last three years, Black students were harassed at their own events, White supremacist orgs attempted recruiting on campus, confederate flags were seen in dorm windows, and anti-racism was pulled from curriculum.

Not to mention there was an entire internal study on racism at BYU and the report revealed a problem. BYU started the Office of Belonging because of it. Curiously, they wouldn't put 'race' or 'diversity' in the name as they thought it was too divisive religionnews.com/2021/03/03/…

Mordecai's goal wasn't to make Esther uncomfortable (though that was a consequence), but to tell her the truth her social location had shielded her from that she might act responsibly and ethically. “If I love you, I have to make you conscious of the things that you don’t see”.

BTW, this might be a good time to say that as much as I criticize the church, I do love it. I did not remain active, start a podcast, switch careers, and attend grad school just to make yt saints uncomfortable. It takes far less to get under their skin. Y'all see the trib today👀
