Gracias

🧵1/ Thread on the #Southport anti-migrant and anti-Muslim disinformation and propaganda. In this thread I highlight key spreaders of disinformation, the chronology, and some points about some of the inauthentic activity evident. I will focus on X.

"'The Place Without Limits' (1978) is the first film where homosexuality in Mexico was treated seriously & rigorously. To this day the film continues to have an impact in the LGBT community, & I am very pleased."

Layout parsing is not possible without quality data. This is CATMuS Medieval Segmentation. CATMuS Medieval was designed for HTR, but this dataset is designed for object detection and layout parsing of medieval manuscripts. Check it out on @huggingface !
It has a total of 207 manuscripts and 1,705 images. Combined the images have tens-of-thousands of different zones and lines annotated.
Classes are annotated with the SegmOnto format. All classes have bounding boxes. This means you can train an object detection model on zone and line classes.
Some classes even have polygons. This means you can use this dataset for instance segmentation as well!

Once fine-tuned, Florence 2 works well at layout parsing medieval manuscripts! Models will be open-source and available on @huggingface this week! There is one for zone detection and one for line detection. I'll explain why in another post. More coming soon!

My article -- "The Revolution in Text Mining is Here" -- is now live at the AHR.
Read about the pathbreaking work of @roopikarisam @jmjafrx @richardjeanso @LukeBlaxill @_akpiper & many others & how they created the tools we need for turning data into trustworthy, historical overviews of cultural & political change.
It was a huge honor to work with @AmHistReview editors and reviewers on this piece, and I'm thrilled to share it with you.
The American Historical Review’s March 2024 issue is now available. This issue features articles and forums that rethink approaches to intellectual, migration, imperial, Indigenous, and digital histories. academic.oup.com/ahr/issue/1…
