Flying cars and running robots! Not long ago, we saw these in science fiction movies and books. Today, they are real. What an amazing time we live in. When risk-taking entrepreneurship and cutting-edge science combine, they change the world.

Is copper the next oil? In terms of demand, yes. There will be an exponential rise with the spread of AI, data centres and aggressive electrification. In terms of supply, it may be different. The world has enough supply of oil. This can be disrupted by geopolitical events but fundamentally there is no global shortage. In copper, there is going to be a structural shortage which will keep rising over the next 5 to 10 years. The world needs to invest in copper. India has a big challenge because we import 95% of our copper. We also have a massive opportunity because we haven't even begun to explore our potential. With appropriate changes in policy, our youngsters can get into exploration. It is not costly and hugely rewarding. And our existing assets can produce 10 times. Especially if the accountability is to public shareholders at large.

Be hungry like Samsung. Samsung has just recorded a quarterly operating profit of USD 80 billion or almost Rs 8 lakh crore! Its annual profit may exceed the combined profits of all listed companies in India. Its story is very amazing. Unlike the US tech companies which were founded as tech companies, Samsung was founded as a trading company which moved into textiles and food processing. Much later, it moved to consumer electronics like ACs and mobile phones. And from there into cutting-edge memory chips. What an evolution. Companies like Samsung generate lakhs of jobs in Korea and other countries, including India. And women are a big part of the workforce. Samsung, which is owner-driven, has shown how companies must remain hungry and dynamic to do more even when they have achieved considerable success. Keep growing and innovating. Nothing is impossible.
