After 10 catastrophic months, the leaders of three western States - all permanent members of the #UNSC -, write a 21 lines statement on the Middle East and not a single word about the MILLIONS scarred by the ongoing atrocities and forcibly displaced over and over. Not a single word about the dozen thousand killed, maimed, tortured, orphaned. Not a single word about the 16,000 children exterminated amid the full-scale destruction of the ghetto they had lived in. Not a single word about the need to ensure justice and respect for int'l law to build sustainable peace.
Hard to think of a more infelicituous choice of words, written and omitted.

ALT We, the leaders of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, welcome the tireless work of our partners in Qatar, Egypt and the United States towards an agreement on a ceasefire and the release of hostages. We endorse the joint statement of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, President Sisi and President Biden calling for the immediate resumption of negotiations. We agree that there can be no further delay. We have been working with all parties to prevent escalation and will spare no effort to reduce tensions and find a path to stability. The fighting must end now, and all hostages still detained by Hamas must be released. The people of Gaza need urgent and unfettered delivery and distribution of aid. Les soutiens des génocidaires israéliens convoquent souvent les atrocités qui se passent ailleurs dans le monde pour disqualifier les soutiens au peuple palestinien. "Soudan, Yemen, Congo, Syrie... pourquoi ne parlez vous pas autant de ces conflits ? Pourquoi ne parlez-vous que d'Israël ?"

Like all other Special Rapporteurs, I perform my duties without financial compensation to preserve my independence.
I have never got paid for anything I have done in this capacity. In the past months, I have even been subsisting on personal & family savings to dedicate all my energies to this role at a time of unprecedented urgency in the oPt. I have also waived contract fees & royalties for the book I published in 2023 & refuse payment for lectures I deliver all over the world.
My external research team is also volunteering their time to support my work. One university has fundraised for my special assistant's fellowship and so far, only received private donations to cover her travel expenses. This is known to the UN and verifiable.
UN Watch’s accusations are completely unsubstantiated and aim to distract from Israel’s ongoing genocidal campaign.
I refuse to allow my work to be diminished by any forms of intimidation. Today, like every day, I remain faithful to my mandate to find a path to dignity, justice and peace for all in Palestine.
Meanwhile: #Israel has just bombed a UN school in Gaza, reportedly killing over 40 Palestinians who were seeking shelter. And #Spain has announced that it will join South Africa's proceedings before the @CIJ_ICJ.

On Thursday, Columbia arrested and suspended its students who were peacefully protesting and have now ignited a nationwide Gaza Solidarity movement. This is more than the students hoped for and I am glad to see this type of solidarity. But to be clear, this about the genocide in Gaza and the attention has to remain on that.
