ALT An open letter from Alzheimer’s Society CEO Kate Lee to Sky News asking that the significant issues facing social care, and the impact on people affected by dementia, are raised with Rishi Sunak & Liz Truss as part of the Conservative leadership debate on Sky News. This is a critical moment for dementia in the UK, and we want to see the candidates commit to making dementia a priority for their new government. Since the 2019 general election, the Conservative government has promised to: • double dementia research funding to deliver breakthrough treatments through a Dementia Moonshot; • reform the social care system, putting people in control of their care and reducing the amount they have to pay for it; • announce a ‘visionary’ 10-year plan for dementia, backed by proper funding and powerful partners, which could be transformational for the 900k people with dementia in the UK. Alzheimer’s Society would like to see Rishi Sunak & Liz Truss challenged to implement these promised reforms
