🚨 Who will be the next EFL manager to get the sack? 👀
We've ranked the managers under the most pressure across the Championship, League One and League Two.
Some controversial selections in here… 😬
Who would YOU put at No.1? 👇
I really try my hardest to not involve a referee’s performance in a game when reflecting on matches, but tonight, that’s a challenge.
Taking my yellow-tinted glasses off, I thought we were fortunate to be ahead at half-time. Mansfield were the better side. We looked sloppy, hesitant and uncomfortable on the ball, allowing Mansfield to find space, particularly in wide areas with their wing-backs. We rode the wave and relied on a piece of magic to go a goal up.
But until the 75th minute of the second half, we looked a lot more like the Oxford we’ve enjoyed watching this season. Energetic, far less passive in possession and controlled as we looked to manage the game effectively… until…
…the referee, in my eyes, makes an absolutely horrendous decision. The question of whether it’s a penalty or not is totally irrelevant. Peter Kioso has not deliberately simulated, without any contact, in order to win a decision. Don’t award the penalty if you wholeheartedly believe it’s ‘soft’, but booking and then sending off a player because you believe they’ve actively looked to con you into awarding a penalty is a brave and, in this case, horrendous call.
O’Donker’s tackle was a second-yellow offence.
The remainder of the game was a test of resilience, character and bravery in defending the box. It gave me horrible flashbacks to the last ten minutes of practically any Championship game where we infrequently had something to hold on to. But we held strong.
Perhaps this is a topic of conversation for another time, but I felt Jamie Cumming looked like a mistake waiting to happen from the early stages of the game. His distribution has never been his strongest attribute, and it very nearly cost us on a few occasions tonight. He lacked authority and sharpness when balls were hit towards him from wide areas, and the equaliser was a horrible example of exactly that. It was a mess.
All in all, the game state almost reflects this one from an Oxford perspective on its own. Were we at our best? Far from it. Were we deserving of our lead? Probably not, but who gives a shit?
The best teams in the league find ways. What does it feel like now? A hard-fought, very ugly point gained on the road, with three home games to play next…

Oxford United can confirm, following an oral renewal hearing earlier today, that a High Court Judge has refused permission for a judicial review relating to the planning permission for the Club’s proposed new stadium.
Having heard submissions from Counsel for each of Friends of Stratfield Brake (the Claimant), Cherwell District Council, Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford United, the Judge concluded that the grounds of challenge were unarguable.
