LUTS/BPH is far more than a “benign” condition — untreated symptoms impact sleep, mental health, sexual function, productivity, and overall quality of life.
At #AUA2026, growing data supported earlier intervention rather than prolonged watchful waiting or chronic medication alone.
MiST therapies (#UroLift, Rezūm, iTind, Optilume) offer durable symptom relief, preserve sexual function, and may outperform medical therapy in patient satisfaction and QoL outcomes.
The question is shifting from “when should we escalate?” to “why are we waiting to intervene?”

ECIRS showed higher stone-free rates and fewer major complications.

📉 Study of 38k VA patients shows:
🔹 Post-2001 TURPs = 49% higher odds of needing another BPH procedure within 5 years
🔹 But… they had significantly less urinary incontinence (⬇️40%)
