What a Conference! 🇬🇧 A Britannia Shield to defend our country. A party that rewards hard work, families and aspiration. No pact with toxic Reform. Facts over fantasy 👍 And in Cumbria, a brilliant Conservative candidate for Mayor in Mike Starkie 💪 @Conservatives 🇬🇧🔵 #cpc26

Exactly. A tourist tax would hit British families & punish the businesses powering Cumbria’s visitor economy. Perhaps Labour’s hapless mayoral candidate should read the evidence before pretending he understands the industry: taxpolicy.org.uk/2026/09/12/… #cumbria #touristtax #politics

England tourist tax: how much will it raise and cost?

Explore our open model of England’s proposed tourist tax. Change the assumptions to see how much it raises, who pays and what it means for tourism.

Yes yes, of course the hospitality lobby says the tourist tax will hammer tourism. Of course they've come up with huge, scary numbers (which we can't verify). But the thing is, they're right. The tax *will* reduce tourism. The question is: how much? So we tried to find out:

Burnham will hurt us all! He will pander to unions and bankrupt us to fund his voter base. Sectarianism and suffering under Bully-boy #Burnham…

As their own Welfare Secretary admitted, Labour MPs are only interested in "'who can we tax in order to pay benefits to others". Labour might have a new leader, but that won't change the core problem: Labour are the Welfare Party.

The end of an era. Fearless, relentless, and never willing to accept defeat, he inspired a generation and gave us some of the greatest moments the game has ever seen. (Big day tomorrow!) Cumbria’s finest @benstokes38 👍

One of England's all-time greatest captains, Ben Stokes, has decided to retire from international cricket at the end of this Test match. Ben, you have been the most inspirational captain, leader and legend this team could have ever hoped for. We love you so much and wish you all the best in your retirement ❤️ England will never be the same again.

Starmer the Farmer Harmer is no more…But don’t let that distract from the bigger picture. The problem was never just one man: it’s a socialist government taking Britain in the wrong direction. Burnham, Carns, or anyone else Labour puts forward, they are NO saviours… #LabourOut

The departure of @JohnHealey_MP leaves Labour with an increasingly shallow pool of experience at the top of Government. Andy Burnham may have ambitions for Westminster, but he must surely be questioning whether joining this exhausted and directionless Cabinet is a step up at all.
