Love this little diva, and the men they keep cutting away to who can barely keep from breaking into a full body Footloose warehouse dance
POV: You told a rude Québécois kid who gave you grief for daring to speak English that fries are better with ketchup than as poutine, so now he's folk-dancing to defend the village's honour.

Any sentimentality about capitalism is a fool's errand, but the end of Hollywood - and that is what we're witnessing, regardless of what happens with Paramount - is more than sentimentality. For a hundred years, the movies did what Harper Lee said of mockingbirds - they “don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us.” Hollywood didn't poison our rivers or use up our resources; it paid its employees better than almost any industry, its product (for most of those 100 years) could be afforded by almost anyone. Movies were at the center of our public sphere, our greatest export, the greatest argument for our way of life. As Frank Capra put it, “No saint, no pope, no general, no sultan, has ever had the power that a filmmaker has; the power to talk to hundreds of millions of people for two hours in the dark.” To know that power is going away, that Hollywood has been destroyed from within - by the greed and incompetence of people with no understanding of creativity, who have reduced this miracle of communication to the terrible word "content" - is crushing for those of us who've lived our fortunate lives in this business. Of course the business will go on churning out content - and some of it will still be great - but it will never be what it was, and my heart goes out to so many younger people who will never realize that dream of holding audiences spellbound for two hours in the dark.
Leaks out of David Ellison's inner circle said the CEO would take his Paramount ball and leave California if state Attorneys General didn’t back off on their antitrust suit to stop the $111 billion merger with Warner Bros Discovery. And now it looks like the ball really is in play. After over 100 years, Paramount brass have told key officials and stakeholders the company “deadly serious” about leaving California and the home of Hollywood. The one element of private equity that feels under discussed is its almost always a race to see how much money can be stolen before the market corrects. You have a product people love and trust (Jersey Mike) and you exploit the love for it. People will eventually revolt but not before someone gets rich. The lie outpaces the discovery (hey the product is shit, used to love this) just fast enough. The brand gets wrecked, and the vampire squid moves on to its next host. Intentionally enshitifying things people love might as well be financial cancer.
Wendy's and Jersey Mike's have gotten worse — and @stavvybaby knows why: "It's getting s***tier because some d***head who's never f***ing spread mayo in his life decided, 'Oh no, actually, instead of a sandwich, this is now a commodity.'"

The entire city of San Francisco is spooked and on edge due to AI safety shit, it’s insane how much it’s bleeding into my everyday life. Like I was at my bus stop and I notice a guy looking really stressed out so I said hey, are you worried about misaligned AI too? He took out an AirPod and said “what?” So I said you know stuff like agent swarms, AI escaping RL sandboxes, existential risk. He paused his Barstool podcast and said “sorry, what? What are you talking about?” Just the mention of this stuff made him too anxious to speak, I think. So I said I know man, what?! is my reaction to all this too, and then asked him what his p(doom) is. He then said “dude is this some gay thing or something because I have no fucking clue what you’re asking me” then he got on the bus. People are not handling all this news well. It’s really affecting us. All of us.
