Schreiben Sie also gefälligst etwas unterhaltsamer in den kommenden Wochen... ZwinkerSmiley!
The urgent procedure for Chat Control has been passed today 😕
On Thursday, MEPs will vote on the implementation of Chat Control, which is vital that it must be stopped.
Europeans, be louder, write to your representatives, and put an end to it!
🔴BREAKING!
At our request, the @Europarl_EN just approved the urgent procedure to close the dangerous legal gap in online child protection.
Remember – since 3 April, there is no legal basis allowing platforms to detect, report, and remove child sexual abuse material online.
We cannot accept this legal vacuum. We cannot let child abuse material go unnoticed and unreported, day after day.
On Thursday, MEPs will vote on the targeted, voluntary measure to close the gap and protect vulnerable children, without compromising European privacy rights.
This is urgent. This vote matters.
And protecting children is our baseline. From day one. Always.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The urgent procedure known as "chat control" does not protect kids but it rather enforces the scanning of all your private conversations.

C'est passé. 331 contre 304.
Jeudi, 361 voix. C'est le dernier verrou.
🇪🇺 The EU is now for the 6th time trying to force Chat Control through which lets them scan ALL your private messages, photos and emails without a warrant
Implictly showing the EU is not democratic and not about what the people of Europe want, because once a law is rejected, you just re-submit it until nobody is watching and it's passed
November 2023: ❌ Chat Control is rejected
June 2024: ❌ Chat Control is rejected
October 2025: ❌ Chat Control is rejected
November 2025: ❌ Chat Control is rejected
March 2026: ❌ Chat Control is rejected
July 2026: 📝 Chat Control is back
Even the EU's own lawyers stated Chat Control is unconstitutional: "generalised message scanning is incompatible with Article 7 of the EU Charter"
You have to wonder why the EU is so adament about reading your private chats, right?

Watching the recap, songs from Sweden and Norway are also promising. But Austria's remains my favorite one.
I arrived late at the song festival broadcast tonight, just heard a few. Austria is the only song worth listening to, and beautifully performed, too.

Spain looked at the UK's 12,000 arrests/year for online wrongthink and thought "great idea, but let's also prosecute the platforms that let them speak". Catastrophically bad direction for Spain (and Europe).
Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez:
Starting next week, my government will implement the following actions:
First, we will change the law in Spain to hold platform executives legally accountable for many infringements taking place on their sites.
Second, we will turn algorithmic manipulation and amplification of illegal content into a new criminal offense.
Third, we will implement a hate and polarization footprint system to track, quantify, and expose how digital platforms fuel division and amplify hate.
Fourth, Spain will ban access to social media for minors under the age of 16. Platforms will be required to implement effective age verification systems — not just checkboxes, but real barriers that work.
Fifth and last, my government will work with our public prosecutor to investigate and pursue the infringement committed by Grok, TikTok, and Instagram.

For sure 😏
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing (I've always advocated for a European version of the Great Firewall) but if you believe that the actions against X aren't politically motivated, I have a bridge to sell you...
For one thing, the investigation was launched on the initiative of a Macron MP named Éric Bothorel: lemonde.fr/pixels/article/20… and his complaint rests on a brand new legal theory - that tweaking your own recommendation algorithm is the legal equivalent of a cyberattack. This lets them use France's anti-hacking statute (Article 323-2 of the penal code) to go after X. They're essentially arguing that Musk "hacked" his own website 😅
Launched by a Macron MP, built on an entirely new legal theory invented to make the case fit... if that's not politically motivated, I don't know what is.
What's VERY interesting here
Last few years the European Commission tried to censor speech on social media platforms with the Digital Services Act (DSA)
But it didn't really work, it caused so much outrage on here and elsewhere, thanks to all of you posting about it, that it became super unpopular
So I think the people behind all this thought "okay if we can't censor on EU level, let's just go national"
So now you see the Spanish PM announce they will change the laws to prosecute speech on social media platforms (specifically X), and on the same day French authorities are raiding the Telegram offices
What you see here is a consistent effort to take power over social media and chat channels because they're the dominant places where we exchange thoughts now
Nobody but boomers watch TV anymore which they still partly controlled via state media, so this is their attempt at taking back control
