You can't advertise porridge, but the Tube will accept ads encouraging suicide.
Well done, Britain. We've just banned the advertising of porridge 'and other oat-based cereals' because it is 'less healthy'. But growth is our number 1 priority!

I will no longer be posting on this account. This is because Elon Musk has made this site unpleasant to use and because I do not want to be associated with his product. Thank you all for years of community, laughs, music, and learning.

Somewhere out there is the guy Musk swapped bodies with, a human adult trapped in the body of a 12 year old. We should try to find him.
Elon Musk is now technically the top Diablo 4 player in the world after a record clear time of 1:52 in the game's toughest challenge

I'm usually the biggest fan of @restisents and often find I'm persuaded by their intelligent and informed takes. However... just this once I struggled. On the subject of this platform what we are on and the number of people who have decided it's no longer for them and have 1/12

This has been my experience of Twitter too, EXCEPT that increasingly when I look at the replies to the nice/interesting people (you might reasonably ask: why do I do that??) it's all racists, transphobes, antivaxxers, and other varieties of asshole.
I don't really understand why people are leaving Twitter. My experience of the site hasn't changed at all. I follow interesting people, interact with nice ones and if they're both nice and local turn them into real-life friends. If they're unpleasant, I block, end of story.

And yes, I do know how to block, I even theoretically know how to Not Read The Comments, but "I like hanging out here even though all the nice people routinely get harassed here! I know how to look away from the nastiness" is not a position I'm very comfortable with.

Anyway the main (somewhat petty) reason I haven't deleted this account is that I don't want someone else to be j4 on here. Still sad that I couldn't get the same username on bsky.

This, not Skynet, is the kind of thing that makes me think AI will kill us all. Teach a highly verbal, interactive adaptive reinforcement algorithm with no evolutionary guardrails to assuage your fragile psyche, and then subscribe to Siren Jr. for your kids.

People are unable to follow the simplest directions right now if they lose access to online maps, so I'm excited to see what the next generation offloads onto their 24/7 hallucinating therapist/buddy/mentor/lifecoach chatbot.

Every school is worried about children's mental health but one of the most important interventions to help children stay well in school has been disappearing in plain sight. Let's recognise the benefits of playtime & get them back to where they should be. My column @tes 👇
