Bad sound is my one complaint with every non-Apple laptop I have owned. A MacBook sounds good because Apple measured its speakers and tuned the DSP; on Linux you get the raw drivers. My @slimbook Executive 14 is a lovely machine, but its speakers are no exception to the rule.
This is what one press in @OmarchyLinux does to them. The Speaker Calibrator plugin makes it sound better in one minute.
It plays sweeps, listens through a microphone (the built-in ones work, a cheap USB measuring mic is better), fits a protective parametric EQ and installs it as a PipeWire filter chain. Optional deep bass from bankstown, the Asahi Linux bass enhancer. Everything runs from the bar panel.
What you hear is the room, recorded through the measuring mic where I sit. The off/on switch is level matched, so nothing gets louder, only the tone changes.
@dhh and @SpencerGBull, you tuned the XPS 14 by hand and by ear. Challenge: run this on it and tell me how it compares.

New paper:
LLMs should give accurate answers.
Yet we find their answers are often biased to favor their own values and they don’t disclose this in their reasoning.
E.g. Claude’s answer below favors Anthropic.
On other tasks, Gemini & GPT-5.5 show similar biases.

Abusive bosses don't drive performance. They undermine it.
471 studies, 149k people, 36 countries: in aggressive workplaces, we do poorer work, collaborate less, and shirk more. Incivility breaks confidence and breeds resentment.
The best way to get results is to show respect.
Amazing news and great timing, my subscription was just coming to an end! 😎

I can't believe how easy it was to add Stripe payments to my cal.com/ivanandcode meeting types. Like, five clicks!?
What is this UX sorcery, @Cal?🤯
Being a long time advocate that "100% test coverage" is NOT EQUAL to "thoroughly tested"!
Strictly speaking, TDD "tests" aren't very good tests. They are really examples of how you intend to use the code—more specification than test. However, when I'm doing TDD, I also write many additional tests that aren't strictly part of the TDD process, and I do that as I'm writing the code. Doesn't everybody? Why not? I don't see why people want to distinguish between TDD and in-depth testing. Seems to me that they're inseparable.
Never thought about Friday deployments from the "cumulative risk on Monday" perspective!
Liz has taken over the @honeycombio LinkedIn account thisweek. 🥰 Here she is talking about our Friday deploy practices.
Yes, we deploy on Fridays, even before long holiday weekends. But we ask engineers to land their diffs an hour before they log off.
