Freedom of assembly and expression is a fundamental right, yet it is increasingly under threat across Africa. Workers who try to gather and defend their rights face obstacles imposed by authorities. According to the ITUC Global Rights Index 2026, in Togo, a union general assembly planned in Lomé was blocked by direct government intervention.
