stumbled on this MySQL setting while poking around the buffer pool:
innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit
defaults to 1. three options:
1 - fsync redo log on every commit. full ACID, survives power loss.
2 - write to OS cache on commit, fsync once a second. survive MySQL crashes, lose up to 1s on OS crash.
0 - write + fsync once a second. lose up to 1s on any crash.
2 is probably the sweet spot for most apps, MySQL crashes are way more common than OS crashes, and you get real throughput gains. but benchmark it before shipping.
