Nathan Fielder has pioneered a form of art that, more than any other cinema that's come out, feels utterly contemporary and period appropriate to the 2020s. Instead of resisting the algorithm or trying to create art that stands outside of it, he lets it completely envelope the work. It's buzzy and meme-y but also philosophically dense, psychologically unsettling, and ultimately very avant-garde and singular. He's not capturing reality nor writing fiction but instead steering reality until it becomes something that transcends both fiction and non-fiction. It's hyperstitional, to use the @xenocosmography term, as in Fielder uses his initial idea to engineer reality towards making the statement he wants to make. But what makes it even more modern than that is that in every project the idea completely gets away from him, becomes sentient, and ultimately the project concludes in a much different direction than he could have ever conceived prior. Because as much as you try, reality can't be steered. I'm glad that You Can See Everything is making everyone realize how singular this kind of work is.

Raising boys who respect women isn’t enough. Raise boys willing to lose male friendships over the way their friends treat women. A man's principles mean very little if they disappear the moment enforcing them might cost him his place with the boys.

Raising boys who won't commit sexual assault is NOT enough. Raise them to be the man in the group chat who texts back: NO, stop this, and I'm calling the cops.

Jalen: "Questions?" OG: "Remember in Game 4 when you took that shot in the end and you missed it?" Jalen: "Yeah" OG: "Remember what happened after?" Jalen: "Yeah. You tipped it in" OG: "Oh yeah. That was awesome"

You should have to go to a physical place to gamble. You should not be able to gamble using an app on your phone. Gambling should not be this gamified.

This time last year, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said that releasing movies in theaters was "an outmoded idea for most people" and that consumers wanted "to watch movies at home." Today, movie theaters have scored their biggest weekend of all time at the global box office.

Me in SF: You need to lock in. Coding, research papers, gym. Me after two days in Paris: You need to leave work at 4 and spend the evenings smoking cigarettes and painting watercolors by a canal.
