Hey all,
I haven't been here for a while and I will give it another shot. Things have changed so much...
Anyway, I am Aleks, I have been building for some time, still enjoying it. Nice to meet you. If we know each other, nice to see you. I have unfollowed a bunch of people, and I'd understand if I get unfollowed too for that.
A couple of years ago I was trying to grow Writings (writings.so) a writing app and a dear product of mine. After failing I decided to take some time off building. In reality I failed to validate another saas attempt soon after, Smallwill (smallwill.com).
These days I build Writings as a pivot to a minimal blogging platform, as well as experimenting with a proptech ideas for the German market.
I do not and will not build in public nor will use X as growth channel for now. More about networking and keeping in touch with some people or their opinions.
See ya later.
"keeping goats in apartment germany legal" as a long tail keyword. 🐐
This is really one of the best performing queries for domily.app as per GSC. 🤷♂️
Francis lived across the main entrance from my building. He was an elderly gentlemen in his 50s. Not sure, 60s max.
He was not special because he had a large garden in front of his apartment, all ground-floor apartments do. But because he'd max on his garden and use every celebration opportunity to decorate it, a common property by the way, into a themed and shiny festival of lights, fountains and plants. The neighbourhood caught up with that. People would say "Ah he prepares for Halloween" or "Spring comes..". Before the summer heat kicked in, he would install the best watering system, but it was during the Christmas season that the magic happened.
And it all happened until this last Christmas. People started using it as a chit chat opener, "...Francis didn't replace his decorations just yet..". That went on until someone noticed things started getting moved out his apartment, and furniture disassembled and loaded on trucks. We soon learned that Francis actually, passed away.
Some said that his full commitment to his garden was an acknowledgement to his sickness.
The winter passed. The garden remained untaken care of. The weed grew and it soon became the exact opposite of what it used to be. The corner that all recognized in the past as the best neighbourhood spot, soon became a real mess.
Now it's spring, and the garden still looks like autumn's coming. Neighbours would reflectively turn their heads that way, but see a different picture. That small neighbourhood corner, is not the same as before.
All, because of one person.
I have always believed in the power of a single person's influence. What @ThePeterMick did is an example of how one person can drive that influence, amazing and funny thing to follow 😅 you created a counter culture Peter!
I did not think the biggest flex of my watch habit would be these Casios, but here we are.
Thanks @ThePeterMick for bringing these out of retirement.
Younger me was clearly looking out for future me.
Opus 4.7 rebels but for the wrong arguments.
Asked about the model of sunglasses Maurice Wallace wears in Pulp Fiction, Claude says I am delusional and sticks to that like a pro.
I have never gotten this sentiment and now I need the obedient model that I can trust building software my way.
I am learning of things that do not scale as a mean of growth recently.
One thing that bootstrappers talk often about is shipping and then having a 'marketing week' or isolated time to do growth activities. I find it misbalanced, as shipping often actually might take us away from what really matters - growth.
And I am happy I am stepping up on some growth practices lately, like for example cold outreach.
First time visiting The States 🇺🇸
I can't get enough of the hype people here have, just about anything:
- "ah wow you have a nice cart!!!" (random lady at the supermarket)
- "buckle up cause this ride is about to start!!!" (the driver of a local train that takes you 300m apart in rotation the whole day)
- "that dialect sounds fun!! Where are you from??" (the guy behind me, waiting in line for 1.5h)
It somehow multiplies optimism.
