I've spent the past month converting my game MineMogul to use Box3D instead of PhysX.
Here's the FPS difference on a few different save files that players sent me. FPS has roughly doubled, and the physics simulation is more realistic.

Without knowing the numbers, and even putting aside how emblematic id Software is: it's hard to understand how a 200-ish people studio maintaining relevant custom technology (& shipping games) isn't perceived as a gold mine of talents. I hope they can regroup as a new entity.
