GOAT He went where no other improvising musician went. He didn’t do it for earthly riches or regard. He explored every dimension of the human heart 🫀 ♥️. Then he went to the stars. Prodigious skills dedicated to love. I am healed in my soul every time I hear him.
100 years ago today, John Coltrane was born. For 20 days, I’ve shared one essential Coltrane recording each day. For the final one, something more personal: a family film edit set to my all-time favorite Coltrane piece: “Equinox”

An insanely underrated figure in America. If the @rockhall looked at global impact @ThinLizzy_ would have been in decades ago. Travesty they are not.
Phil Lynott was born on this day in 1949. As the frontman and principal songwriter of Thin Lizzy, he gave rock some unforgettable songs and a voice that was completely his own. “The Boys Are Back in Town,” “Jailbreak,” “Dancing in the Moonlight” and so many others remain part of his legacy. Lynott may be gone, but his music never left. Photo by Paul Natkin/Getty Images

Sonny Rollins was the last surviving musician from “A Great Day in Harlem”, the iconic 1958 photograph by Art Kane that brought together dozens of jazz legends in Harlem.
Rest in peace, Sonny Rollins… Nicknamed the “Saxophone Colossus,” he reshaped modern jazz with fearless improvisation, a towering tenor tone, and timeless classics like Saxophone Colossus and The Bridge. One of the last great bebop giants, his sound and spirit changed jazz forever.

In loving memory of Guitarist and Vocalist Isaac 'Ike' Willis who passed away on May 17th. Cause of death has not been determined at this time. Willis is best known for being a regular member of Frank Zappa's studio and touring bands from 1978 until the last tour in 1988. He is most recognized for his involvement in Zappa records by playing Joe in Joe's Garage, providing vocals on Tinsel Town Rebellion, You Are What You Is, and The Man from Utopia, and as the title character and narrator in Zappa's off-Broadway-styled conceptual musical Thing-Fish, as well as singing and playing on the majority of Zappa's band-oriented studio and live recordings during the 80s. Willis regularly did studio voice work and wrote compositions for films. He also created solo music and led The Ike Willis Band. He released two solo studio albums under his own name and was working on another album prior to his death. November 12, 1955 – May 16, 2026 RIP 🕊️

Ozzy Osbourne Album Ranking from Worst to Best #1: Diary Of A Madman (1981) Whenever I listen to this album, aside from my immense enjoyment of it, I find myself always getting a bit sad. Because you can HEAR the evolution happening with this band. The progression of the music from the debut to this is EVIDENT. The songs were getting a little longer. The songwriting was becoming more ambitious and Rhoads’ guitar playing was becoming more dynamic as well. So it PAINS me that we’ll NEVER hear what this band could’ve done after this. But as it stands…this is the PINNACLE of Ozzy Osbourne and his bands, in my opinion. Whenever I think of Ozzy, I think of this album. The cover, the aesthetic, the songs, EVERYTHING! This album is the PERFECT marriage of Ozzy’s image, with Rhoads and Daisley’s song writing. Making KICK ASS and slightly unhinged Heavy Metal with Ozzy’s BEST vocals ever! ‘Over The Mountian’ (spoiler alert😂) is my favorite Ozzy song OF ALL TIME! Rhoads BEST riff! The HEAVIEST of this era of the band, and Ozzy’s iconic vocals! And them going from that to ‘Flying High Again’ is just PERFECT! ‘You Can’t Kill Rock and Roll’ is RIGHT THERE with ‘Goodbye to Romance’ for my favorite Ozzy ballad! I LOVE the dark and DIRGEY aesthetic of ‘Believer’! Maybe the darkest guitar playing ever from Rhoads. But that’s also rivaled by ‘Little Dolls’😂 Both those songs have CRAZY good riffs under the verses that usually go unnoticed among Rhoads best riffs ever! ‘Tonight’ might be the only good, not great, song on the album but it’s STILL got great vocals from Ozzy. And the title track is just legendary! The culmination of the ambitious songwriting and storytelling that this band was capable of! This album is Ozzy at his finest, Randy Rhoads at his ABSOLUTE finest, and the band just firing on ALL CYLINDERS! This is one of those albums that gets BETTER AND BETTER the more times you listen to it! Finding different things that Rhoads does with the guitar. That’s why it’s number one for me. It’s got the MOST replay value which helped push this album to the top of the mountain of this ranking (and not over it😂)
