capitalism’s greatest trick was convincing the working class to dream of being rich instead of questioning why they’re poor.

Consider a bakery:
SARB: hikes rates due to US/Iran war
Bakery: pays more on its loans & hikes the price of bread even more
Consumer: buys less bread
Bakery: reduces output & retrench.
SARB: "our policy has worked" & blames everyone for poor economic growth & unemployment
[WATCH] Speaking at the release of the October 2026 Monetary Policy Review (MPR), Governor Lesetja Kganyago said that, in the wake of heightened economic uncertainty and elevated inflation, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) would stay the course.
In the wake of a prolonged oil price shock, inflation is forecast to rise in the coming months, averaging 4.4% in 2026, before returning to the 3% target from the fourth quarter of 2027.
The MPR notes the SARB’s policy priority is to prevent the ongoing oil price shock from entrenching high inflation. The SARB will act decisively to bring inflation back to target.

Without a doubt, one of the best pieces of media in existence. Period.
Duncan Trussell recorded this conversation with his mother while she was facing terminal cancer.
What you’re hearing isn’t scripted. It isn’t performed. It’s a son sitting with his dying mother trying to hold onto every word before the words run out.
And she, the one facing the end, is the one doing the comforting.
That is what makes these conversations so extraordinary. Not the wisdom itself, as profound as it is. But who it’s coming from. A woman who had every reason to be consumed by her own fear choosing instead to spend what little time remained helping her son understand how to live without her.
These recordings became the heart of The Midnight Gospel. And I always go back to watch it again.
They remain some of the most honest conversations about death, love and what it means to be human ever put on screen…
