Observability @Canonical | @UCSanDiego opinions my own

Since joining @Canonical and working more closely with Ubuntu, I’ve been spending more time learning through open source! Along the way, I’ve had the chance to make small contributions to CPython, the Linux kernel, and a few open-source AI projects I’m still very much learning, but if you’re trying to get started with open source, feel free to reach out. Happy to share what has helped me so far :D Some of my work here: github.com/iamsharduld

interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works already-clean.goodfire.com/

We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics. The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra. The problem concerns whether the description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years.

i love twitter within just 2 hours of tweeting an RSA-260 factor, a researcher from the team who factored RSA-155 in 1999 shows up in the replies to say congrats before @penlume was even born! 🫨 – at San Francisco, CA

Next month, every line of code touching the 𝕏 system will be open source and third-party audited. Only total transparency deserves trust.

Open source 👏🏼👏🏼
We've open-sourced Grok Build and have reset usage limits for all users. Open sourcing Grok Build allows anyone to support making a reliable and robust harness. Check out our code, including the Git repo for the Grok Build CLI. x.ai/open-source

What model architectures/engineering induce this ‘behavior’?
“Fable is a 'wise owl' who is very thoughtful and very well spoken, GPT-5.6-Sol is like a rottweiler who will grab the problem by the throat and not let go until it is done.” Best explanation I’ve heard so far.
