This is such a sobering read. Not because of the Zuma stuff (that too) but because it's a reminder of the high costs of freedom

The replies / quotes on this is why the Internet was invented
there’s a genre of phrases that sound like they’re from the bible or like paradise lost, but really, really aren’t. like “there are cathedrals everywhere for those with the eyes to see” which is ofc a jordan peterson tweet about a bottle of evian. what are the others?

Is there a policy that has caused more harm to U.S. citizens than the war on drugs? I truly believe you’d be hard pressed to find one.

This internal monologue thing always fascinates me. I have zero internal monologue. And I rarely think in visuals too (maybe 30% of the time) Explains a lot I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jenny out here with a master class in how to think about new ideas
Replying to @solar_chase
Space solar, though? That's a way to make people think a basically incredibly safe and boring power source, with some properties that require adjustment (eg making power loads more flexible because the sun doesn't shine at night) is a joker that will create huge problems.

Outlandish but I love the energy. Probably the LCOE for "solar in space" (borrowing from one of my fav @solar_chase quips) is going to be off the chart high, but experimenting with new ideas is important.
Sharing a bit more about Reflect Orbital today. @4TristanS and I are developing a constellation of revolutionary satellites to sell sunlight to thousands of solar farms after dark. We think sunlight is the new oil and space is ready to support energy infrastructure. This airborne test was the last piece needed before we launch above the atmosphere. 🧵🧵(1/6)

To be clear, I very much doubt that this will ever pencil out. PV plus battery (on the ground) is just going to win.

Turns out Gujarati Muslims were some of the first financiers of Indian cinema. So basically like your local mosque :) Superb writing here as always

Just when I was wondering what to watch, the Hawaai Supreme Court comes to the rescue. A rewatch of The Wire is needed
Replying to @MorosKostas
Sounds like the Hawaii Supreme Court doesn't even want to be a part of the United States, in this rejection of not just the Second Amendment but their culture and understanding of the Constitution.

Bafana tried to do the springbok things. Well played guys. The spirit of 96 lives on.

This is such a cool book! Great content, really well presented
“Mathematical rigor is like clothing: in its style it ought to suit the occasion, and it diminishes comfort and restricts freedom of movement if it is either too loose or too tight" -G.F. Simmons Physicists/Engineers know this well - too much rigor induces a fear of making educated leaps, even when they could result in significant progress. Tools that help us guess answers without a proof or an exact calculation are often very valuable. "Tool = A trick you use twice" -George Polya A good resource for learning such tools is "Street-Fighting Mathematics" which is available free online. sept.mit.edu/sites/default/f…

Being a builder doesn't have to be about big things. Note to self: Build little cool things that bring people some joy / value.
build things you're surprised don't exist yet. I couldn't find a recent list of run clubs in NYC, so I started a list in my notes app then I migrated it to a spreadsheet then I built a website around it that's how I ended up with nycrunclubs.com most ppl I show it to are surprised it didn't exist before (and that I snagged the domain name for only $10)
