I genuinely can’t think of anything more antisemitic & more offensive towards the Jewish community in Britain than saying that protesting against the killing of children should be suspended out of respect for British Jews.
I urge anyone thinking about protesting this weekend to recognise and respect the grief of British Jews.
This is a moment of mourning. It is not a time to stoke tension and cause further pain. It is a time to stand together.
We are a country that welcomes all people, no matter their faith, to stand under the same flag as neighbours and friends.
That is who we are and who we will always be. Hatred and violence will never win.
Error Handling: From Charles Babbage to Python 3.11
This talk introduces the new error handling features of Python 3.11, while placing them within their historical perspective.

Over the last couple of years, CPython's compiler was refactored. In version 3.13, we will have access from Python scripts to more stages of the compilation. This talk describes the project.

We now have a draft PEP to block return/break/continue in finally: peps.python.org/pep-0765/

I conducted an analysis of return-in-finally in real world Python code.
TL;DR:
- it is not used often
- when it is used, it's usually used incorrectly
- code authors find it easy to fix

I wrote about the many ways that Israel has made trauma a weapon of war.
About how this exploitation betrays the victims of the past.
And creates many more victims in the present.
It was hard to write. It will be hard to read.
I hope it helps. theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i…

It’s the story of the US as well.

From an era when the United States already had the cynical and corrupt political leadership of the sort it has today, but there were American officials and elder statesmen who actually understood the world and were serious about policymaking.

I'm crying at this brilliant piece by Jewish comedian Orit Matlow mocking Zionist responses to anti-genocide protests. "Raytheon is my cousin."
Growing up in Israel, the conversation about the Holocaust always included "where was the world? why didn't anybody save our grandparents?"
I find it truly incredible that @HenMazzig can now say to @OwenJones84 "why is Gaza any of your business?"

“I think it would be written as the beginning of the end of the Zionist project,” says Israeli historian and professor Ilan Pappé.
Pappé added that Israel’s current war on Gaza may be “the darkest moment in the history of Palestine, but it was the darkness before the dawn”

Israel’s declared ground offensive on Rafah would be catastrophic and must not proceed.
Today's announcement marks a dramatic escalation in this ongoing massacre.
There is no place that is safe in Gaza and no way for people to leave.

ALT Text on graphic reads: We call on the government of Israel to immediately halt this offensive. Israel’s declared ground offensive on Rafah would be catastrophic and must not proceed. Nowhere in Gaza is safe, and repeated forced displacements have pushed people to Rafah, where they are trapped in a tiny patch of land and have no options. As aerial bombardment of the area continues, more than a million people, many living in tents and makeshift shelters, now face a dramatic escalation in this ongoing massacre.
