Some of the best business lessons come from mistakes. And they don’t always have to be your own.
Recent GST audits have uncovered issues involving fees, credit notes, transactions between related companies and input tax claims. These cases may be history, but the lessons remain relevant.
Learn from what happened, review your own GST practices and avoid repeating costly mistakes.

IRAS is aware of misleading information being circulated, encouraging taxpayers to make false claims for employment expenses that were not incurred, or incorrect claims for expenses that are not allowable as tax deductions.
Taxpayers are advised not to rely on such information, and to ensure that the claims made in tax returns are valid, accurate, and properly substantiated.
👉 Made an incorrect or unsupported claim? Amend or withdraw it.
Make the necessary correction through the ‘Amend Tax Bill’ digital service at go.gov.sg/amend-tax-bill. If you are unable to do so through the service, submit a request to withdraw the claim at go.gov.sg/withdraw-employmen… or contact IRAS via live chat.
IRAS takes a serious view of false, incorrect and unsupported claims and will continue to monitor and take appropriate enforcement actions against taxpayers who deliberately abuse the tax system. Additional tax and penalties of up to three times the tax undercharged may be imposed for such claims. Individuals charged in court may also be liable to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both.
