Folorunso Gideon Ibukuntomiwa, Celestina Ekene Chukwudi and Chisom Peace Asom, of Covenant University in Ogun State, and Tmitope Damilola Oyebajo, of Lead City University in Ibadan, in a paper dated March 2025 (Ibukuntomiwa and others 2025), reported:
‘Nigeria is a multiethnic and multicultural nation with over 250 ethnic groups, and federalism was adopted as a form of administration to manage the ethnic and regional variations of the country. There are several issues with federalism in Nigeria, such as the concentration of power at the center, corruption, and unequal resource distribution. The IPOB drive for self-determination reflects the problems with federalism in Nigeria, especially in the southeast, where the group has attracted many supporters. The group maintains that Nigeria’s federal system has failed to solve systemic disparities and injustices faced by the Igbo people and that the only answer is to form an independent state of Biafra. The Nigerian government, on the other hand, sees IPOB’s call for independence as a danger to national unity and territorial integrity.

As Germany faces renewed calls to address its colonial past in Namibia, perhaps other ex-colonizers like France and Britain should check whether their own colonial skeletons are still comfortably tucked away in the closet.

Germany has accepted responsibility and pledged about €1.1 billion in development funding.
Many affected communities say this does not provide justice and continue to demand direct compensation, a formal apology, and greater involvement in the ongoing negotiations.

These are not rules, they’re anchors, the kind that keep a ship steady in a storm; preserve the movement, even when others want to tear it apart; Protect the dignity of Mazi #NnamdiKanu’s name and legacy because that is the representation of our people; Refuse to be dragged into chaos, noise, or emotional manipulation; Stand for truth, even when lies are louder; Hold the centre until the rightful leader returns. What the true mother did before Solomon was to choose life over division and purpose, instead of ego.
This is what every conscious leader must do.
MY MESSAGE TO THOSE WHO SEEK DESTRUCTION
I do not fight you; I simply refuse to join you. I will not divide the living child. I will not hand over the movement to confusion and I, I will not allow noise to replace the structure.
Your chaos will not shape me - It is not loud enough to deafen me, and your expectations and projections have no power to pressure me. I am here for #preservation, not performance and the journey is long.
MY MESSAGE TO BIAFRANS
Every generation has a moment where it must choose:
Do we divide the living child, or do we protect it? Do we allow chaos to define us, or do we anchor ourselves in principles? Do we follow noise, or do we follow truth?
I choose #truth, #preservation, and #discipline. I choose the path that keeps #IPOB alive until Mazi #NnamdiKanu walks free. Because movements do not die when leaders are imprisoned. Movements die when people lose their principles. And as long as I breathe, that will not happen.

THE NEW PHASE: IPOB Leadership's Strategic Meeting With Hardcore Biafraland Comrades iconsnews.com/2026/06/the-ne…
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Directorate of State (DOS), under the leadership of Mazi Chika Edoziem, has activated a new phase of institutionalization following a high-level strategic leadership meeting held with state executives and principal officers across Biafraland.
The marathon meeting, which brought together the Head and Deputy Head of DOS, the GOC of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), all Biafraland National Executives, and state coordinators from 13 states, emphasized unity, organizational discipline, and renewed commitment to the Biafra restoration project.
Participants expressed strong confidence in the current leadership, welcomed the newly unveiled institutional framework, and reaffirmed the full operational readiness of the ESN under the Directorate of State command structure.
All dull people are now realising that Mazi Nnamdi kanu is prophet and was right about everything. Smart people with sound reasoning like us realized he is always right since 2014 when you all are calling people listening to him miscreants. Everyone is now miscreants.
Muslims who converts to Christianity are being sentenced to death in Northern Nigeria by shariah Courts. Arewa influencers will never talk about it. These are people who want Igbos to accept Islam in Igboland. No room for Islam in Igboland.

IPOB Spain Rejects Nnamdi Kanu’s Directives from Prison, Pledges Loyalty to Existing Directorate of State (DOS)
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Spain chapter has thrown its weight behind the Directorate of State (DOS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra, firmly rejecting directives issued by detained suspended leader Nnamdi Kanu from Sokoto prison.
In a strongly worded statement released, IPOB Spain declared its complete rejection of Kanu’s attempt to dissolve the existing Directorate of State and replace it with a new structure composed of individuals they say are not members of the organization.
“We, the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Spain, stand in solidarity with the already existing authority of the Directorate of the State of the Indigenous People of Biafra (DOS),” the statement reads.
The Spain chapter described Nnamdi Kanu as “formerly occupying the office of the leader and director of Radio Biafra, now suspended,” and stated that it would continue to take directives exclusively from the DOS, which has managed the movement’s affairs since Kanu’s abduction and subsequent detention.
The chapter aligned itself with the broader suspension of Kanu’s offices by the DOS leadership, emphasizing that IPOB Spain would be governed through established institutions operating under defined constitutional authority.
“IPOB Spain rejects individual leadership that lacks constitutional foundation,” the statement continued. “We align with the global position that authority within the movement must be collective, institutionally distributed, and grounded in constitutional governance.”
The Spain chapter further stressed the need for proper institutionalization of IPOB, insisting that authority must be exercised according to established procedures and remain subject to accountability. It described the struggle for Biafra’s self-determination as a “collective undertaking” that “cannot be subject to private control or family affairs.”
IPOB Spain concluded by reaffirming its unwavering loyalty to the existing Directorate of State.
The statement was signed by Mazi Chiemeka O. Ihezie, National Coordinator of IPOB Spain.
IPOB Spain’s position reflects a growing emphasis among many diaspora chapter on constitutional governance and institutional continuity over personal or familial control.
The statement comes amid ongoing debates about leadership legitimacy within the movement as it pushes for the independence of Biafra from Nigeria.

Community Outrage in Owerri West as Police Detain Vigilantes Who Confronted Alleged Kidnapping Fulani Herdsmen
Tensions are rising in Obibiezena and Ihiagwa communities in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State following the arrest and detention of local vigilante members by police. The vigilantes had reportedly confronted Fulani herdsmen accused of involvement in frequent kidnappings along the axis.
Residents are questioning the action of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agballa Police Station, demanding his immediate removal. Many in the community view the detention as misplaced priority and a failure to address the real security threat posed by alleged criminal herdsmen operating in the area.
“Why would the DPO Agballa Police Station detain Vigilante Members who confronted Fulani Herdsmen who kidnap people on a daily basis in Obibiezena & Ihiagwa axis of Owerri West?” a concerned community source asked.
The incident has sparked widespread protest, with locals insisting that the DPO “MUST GO.” Residents claim the vigilantes were actively responding to a persistent security challenge that has led to repeated abductions and fear in the farming and residential communities.
Obibiezena people have maintained a firm stance, describing the police action as protective of alleged criminals rather than the victims. They argue that instead of supporting local efforts to curb kidnapping, the police are targeting those risking their lives to defend the community.
A community representative stated that further investigations would be conducted into the circumstances surrounding the detention. “We shall carry out further investigations on this!” the source added.
The Obibiezena Ihiagwa axis has reportedly experienced heightened cases of kidnapping allegedly linked to Fulani herdsmen in recent times. Residents complain of daily threats, loss of farmlands to herders, and frequent abductions that have disrupted normal life and economic activities in the agrarian area.
Vigilante groups, often formed as a community self-help initiative in the face of perceived inadequate policing, have been at the forefront of confronting these threats. The latest detention has deepened distrust between the police and the affected communities.
As of press time, there has been no official statement from the Imo State Police Command regarding the detention of the vigilantes or the allegations against the DPO. Community leaders are mobilizing and calling for the immediate release of the detained vigilantes and a thorough probe into the DPO’s conduct.
The situation remains tense, with residents warning that failure to address their concerns could lead to further unrest or loss of confidence in law enforcement institutions in the area.
This incident adds to a growing list of security related complaints in parts of Imo State, where accusations of police complicity or misplaced priorities continue to surface in rural communities battling herder related violence and kidnapping.
Further developments are expected as community leaders press for accountability and improved security measures.
