Yesterday we were delighted to mark Self-Care Awareness Day 2025 by starting a national conversation that highlighted that Self-Care is already delivering real value to the Irish healthcare system.
This includes;
✔️ €727 million in annual savings.
✔️ Over 19 million minor conditions managed.
✔️ 7.6 million GP hours freed each year.
But we’re just getting started. Our report outlines 5 key steps to unlock the full value of Self-Care:
🔹 National policy integration
🔹 Reclassification of appropriate medicines
🔹 Expanded pharmacist-led care
🔹 Investment in digital Self-Care tools
🔹 Community-based health literacy and awareness campaigns
This aligns directly with Sláintecare and the HSE’s Common Conditions Service.
Thank you to everyone who supported the campaign this week — let’s keep the momentum going. Together, we can build a more accessible, efficient, and person-centred health system for Ireland.
