What is DIGITAL MATTER THEORY ( DMT ) ?
DMT proposes treating DATA as the unrefined raw substance / shared terrain of digital reality, something inherently useful we can build on and work with vs always starting from scratch
to facilitate INTEROPERABILITY and VARIANCE
π§΅
i still remember how @TheBlockRunner coined the term "Digital Matter Theory" and used to showcase all the cool stuff going on with π§#bitmap
yeah there's been some drama, i remember it all, but nonetheless bitmappers lately over here actually deploying cool "DMT" apps - seems weird TBR making no commentary on this bc of the bitmap / NAT schism
basically saying i wouldn't be mad if @WilliamGomezJr and @iman_blockrun ever wanted to resume covering bitmap - let all that drama be water under the bridge / stronger together kumbaya - plenty of interesting DMT stuff to talk about π
extremely cool watching the - until recently theoretical - DIGITAL MATTER THEORY thesis lately getting compellingly realized in the π§#bitmap development scene
DIGITAL MATTER THEORY basically proposes using a common / agreed upon data set as the foundation for a open ecosystem of apps - if all the apps are all built on the same underlying data set this introduces a lot of interesting opportunities for interoperability and blockchain based ownership of cross-platform assets
of course the most decentralized and distributed data set on earth = the BITCOIN blockchain - which makes it an ideal candidate for these kinds of experiments
furthermore bitcoin block data is inherently organized as discreet packets of data - blocks - which makes individual block data an appropriate building material anytime you want to construct a cohesive larger whole where the individual parts each have unique qualities
@BitmapPlotz has so far recently put out 3 simple arcade style games that each turn individual bitcoin blocks into a grid-based 3D spatial map where the attributes of each grid coordinate are determined by data points in the corresponding bitcoin block
same data set --> 3 different gamified, playable interpretations of the data
impressive / ambitious BITMAP metaverse explorer-builder apps by @UrbanBor and @BitmapSunset also interpret the very same bitcoin block data as explorable 3D worlds where users can actually build things on plots corresponding to BITMAPS they own
bitmappers have been excited about the *THEORETICAL POTENTIAL* for this sort of thing since the beginning - about 3 years ago - but only recently the rise of AI powered vibe-coding tools making it possible to ACTUALLY REALIZE THIS POTENTIAL - we are curently witnessing the first wave of simple bitcoin block data / bitmap based apps compelling demonstrating the fully realized potential of #DMT theory β‘οΈ
considering it's still very early days for both π§#BITMAP and AI-vibe coded tools truly no telling what super cool stuff developers will come up with next as this sort of progress rapidly continues ποΈπ€―

pretty amazed witnessing π§ #bitmap devs actually bringing the "decentralized metaverse on bitcoin" vision to life
currently we have TWO 3D bitmap metaverse builder / explorer apps using INTEROPERABLE DATA STANDARDS = builds in one app also renders in the other π€ both apps substantially improving / becoming more fully featured & aesthetically impressive with each new version ποΈ
with zero VC funding or institutional support
sustaining retail attention very difficult in crypto - 99% of projects built on timelines terminating in hours, days or, at most, weeks - whereas the bitmap ecosystem now 3 years in and still gathering increasing developmental momentum - ( lots of really cool 2D bitmap infra out there as well )
let's be real : this is still a super niche asset few are aware of, but also still one of the only passionate crypto subcultures building legitimately novel / interesting apps aligned with the original cypherpunk vision of permissionless, decentralized, uncensorable, self sovereign infrastructure actually useful for something besides gambling
in other words = still an extremely compelling sleeper / dark horse asset genuinely in a class of it's own π
πβ¨ recently added #470 to my collection of @BitmapSunset process artifacts
open source 3D dataviz art of the highest order recursively coded into the fabric of #Bitcoin blocks
π§#bitmap
Thanks everyone for the support, quite a few sales on @OrdDropz and it's back trending on @Satflow!
@589xStudio just asked me why people need a Sunset.
Short answer:
You don't need a Sunset π€£
Long answer:
I sell them to fund the development of the app.
If you think I'm adding value to the bitmap ecosystem, please support my work.
If you think BitmapSunset is going to keep improving and reach adoption, grab some Sunsets.
I decided to develop the app without any gate, so that any Ordinals enjoyer can play and any bitmap owner can build with it, so that any bitmap can mine its resources without having to buy anything from me, so that the whole bitmap community can benefit from its development.
Considering how many fake bitmap clubs, grifts and abandoned bitmap projects people have thrown money at, and that I'm still standing after 3 years, a Sunset is a cheap ticket into the BitmapSunset fam.
I'm thankful to the bitmap community, and even more so to the BitmapSunset one. Every minute I spend developing the app, I try to find new perks so that Sunset holders benefit from this whole endeavour, with one hard constraint: it must not capture the bitmap protocol in any way. Any perk must sit on top of the bitmap protocol, and any bitmap holder must be able to use the app without owning a Sunset.
That being said, Sunsets already have a lot of value in my opinion, and I'll keep finding ways to add more. So far, some of the best perks are:
1) Billboards: if the app takes off, if bitmap gets adopted and people use the app as a gate to the multiverse, each Sunset is an actual billboard you can use to display and promote your work, your passions, your thoughts, anything, no permission needed. If bitmap is cyber Manhattan, owning a Sunset is like owning an LED spectacular in Times Square.
2) Mining pool: it's a ticket to the BitmapSunset mining pool. I developed a bot that can engage in a claim war with the bot that has been scooping every bitmap every block for 2 years, the one dumping at floor price. When I run our bot, I can grab around 10% of the newly emitted bitmaps, and I airdrop most of them to Sunset holders. It's costly to operate for now, as the floor price prevents a positive ROI, but as the floor moves up the bot becomes ROI positive and gets fired up again.
3) Pixel war: you can stamp ground images on bitmaps you don't own. Bitmap pixel war.
4) Curation: bitmaps listed in your Sunset's script are fetched first by the app. You can use this to bootstrap your builds, or bitmaps you don't own, inside the app. Curatorial power in the client.
5) Moon land: the moon is parcelled out so that every Sunset owner will be able to build on it.
6) HTML billboards: OG Sunsets 0-99 can display iframes (dynamic HTML inscriptions) on their billboards.
7) More to come...
correction : π§#bitmap one of the few original ideas in CRYPTO
the first and most vital example of an entirely novel digital asset class comprised of TOKENIZED BLOCK DATA - wherein the various data contained in each block offer a rich bank of metrics that can be utilized and valued in limitless ways to drive processes within an ecosystem of apps designed to leverage this data
the fact this conceptual innovation occurred in the context of #BITCOIN #ORDINALS a fitting expression of designing from first principles in a sphere where the primacy of bitcoin remains uncontested
genuinely dazzling stuff β¨
progressively more true each iteration of @BitmapSunset without exaggeration among the greatest works of dataviz art ever conceived
βοΈ built from the substrate of raw #BITCOIN block data
βοΈ running in-browser 100% off code permanently inscribed into bitcoin blocks = no server required
incredible
sheer tenacity of inspired π§#bitmap devs truly a thing to behold
