All the people showing off their AI “filmmaking” with the most sfx-ish, epic sci-fi/fantasy… all the stuff that took a huge budget. And it just screams AI. I’ll be convinced when someone does an AI “My dinner with Andre” kinda film that passes. By “convinced” I mean horrified.😱

Each time U.S. renames a thing, we pay. Gulf of Mexico rebrand: half-million initially, estimates of final costs:$10 million minimum. Lake America: initial is half-million, estimated full rebrand: tens of millions. Dept. of War rebrand: expected $50 million. Where’s DOGE?

Even Claude “gets” that we use better learning approaches to train machines than we do to train humans. “It's ironic, we built machines that learn the Gibsonian way and then kept teaching humans the anti-Gibsonian way anyway.” (Also some robotics algorithms for novelty search)

The smart AI does not let on that it is. (Borrowing from HG Frommer-attributed, “the smart cat does not let on that he is.” ) Also, see Vonnegut’s “Tom Edison’s Shaggy Dog”

My oldest guy last night, age 27 (with Cushing’s and IR). We train for badass no matter the age, because every horse (and human) deserves to be their most badass self. Adaptation still happens at all ages.

The U.S. is spending $5 million to renovate and gold-cover 4 horse statues. If they’re going to spend all this on horses, I wish it could be on the adoption of 5000 living, breathing wild/feral mustangs rounded up by BLM. (5 million would ensure a good chance for 5000).

Last night was my first horse “workout” after their long break.. I use CLA to do virtually everything. Task: keep track of human with a target. Env: 100-meter track, corners afford accelerating to catch up when the human cuts the corner. We don’t use whips, ever. We use nature.

Our combined age is 95. Keep moving.

We do this track run every night, to guarantee all the 4-legged creatures practice acceleration/deceleration at least once a day. The 2-legged creatures (e.g. me) use a golf cart until spring, when I return to sprinting. Yikes. 😳 it’s time for me to start running 🏃🏼‍♀️ again.

I once taught a week-long distributed programming class at NASA. It was the most rewarding class of my life. Students were staying late each night to tinker with their individual end-of-class projects. The network drum machine in my Head First Java was inspired by that class.🚀🔥

The @NASA Artemis feed is my emotional support livestream. Can’t believe we get to experience this in my lifetime 🥹🚀.

“Scale [X] without scaling headcount” has been the dream of corporations as long as I’ve been alive, but thanks to AI the “dreams” are coming true. Unless you’re trying to keep your job. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Some work is safe, for now, but where am I am, programmers are learning to weld 😳.

Hard to be excited or hopeful with current U.S. admin, but damn the Artemis II launch was inspiring. That said, online MAGA is slamming its “DEI” astronauts 😔. If I’d seen a woman astronaut, it could have changed my grim childhood. 1960 U.S. “The Right Stuff” was only white men.

Training the youngster with the Aquabag. Humans are basically big water bags, so 💁‍♀️ this lets us train with progressive load. Fearful riders are often on horses that were NOT trained with perturbations/instability. Its scary for both horse and human if their balance is sketchy😳

From the “tell me you have a puppy without telling me” file. DIY PVC boots for the chair with wood legs. 🐶.

“With great power comes great responsibility.” Call me old-fashioned, but I think political, biz, sport leaders or large-platform influencers should TRY to be role models. To hold themselves to a higher standard than random, anonymous TikTok/X posts. (cc potus) Punch UP, not down

If kids are old enough to take an illegal drug (e.g., pill they weren’t prescribed), they’re old enough to be told the risks. Sure, there’s always an edge case, but “they’re poisoning our children” narrative misses the public health/econ crisis driving illegal drug-seeking.

I’m deeply angry about the boat/human bombing in the Caribbean, in part because we’re stomping on symptoms while totally failing to address the underlying problem. We have a public health crisis causing people to seek illegal drugs. It’s our *demand* driving suppliers.

Regular tariffs reminder for MAGA: it’s U.S. citizens paying them. E.g. local farm suppliers can’t survive by eating huge tariff in farm equipment that is not — and NEVER will be — made in the U.S. This micro hay baler we use, ONLY size we can afford, made only in China or India.

There’s NOTHING we could do to keep our little hay farm (30 acres) alive without implements NOT made in the U.S. And that means not just the equipment but replacement parts. U.S. mfrs are NOT willing to tool up for micro-sized farm gear, EVER. Just 1 example of millions.
