As someone who’s had a non-linear career path, I think I’m going to make some changes to my portfolio that speak to that instead of the narrower design engineer lane I’ve been pursuing lately. It boxes out the rest of my skills and leaves no room to show my range otherwise.
I think maybe that puts me more in the space of creative technologist, because of all my skills, my biggest thing is being able to bring product and brand experiences to life. And now I have the tech skills to do cool things, but the most important thing that has helped me crush it in roles is simple: make people see you care.
It’s led to the greatest wins. Scale isn’t overrated, but trying to scale before/without care is a recipe to fail, for many types of businesses, especially outside of enterprise.
Love this. Going to take my own approach to this. As someone who’s crushed it in sales, field marketing, email marketing, social marketing, B2B strategy, learned to code, now builds, leads with strategy, manages stakeholders, sees creatively, knows how to balance that with strategy and human psychology, and learned all of that from reading and practice and deployed that in the places I’ve worked to prove the theory is more than just that, I’m having a hard time.
I have skills. I don’t shy away. I take hard conversations. With anyone. And I lead to delight because what even is there to disagree on?
This is our time. But to win, you have to position yourself.
And the time to fight this battle is NOW! Love this approach.
the world is going a little crazy rn
and every business needs people who can do many things: find the problem, build the thing, ship it, sell it
i'm one of them, and unemployed for a bit 😌
no resume explains how i work, so i made a tiny game instead 👇

hire me. or just talk to me.
There’s lots of talk around tech companies struggling to find people who tell good stories. And I think when I was making this using @ElevenLabs, I discovered a pretty wide chasm that’s being overlooked that might need an me-shaped fill.
Really excited to be writing something long for the first time in a while. And really proud of how this whole experiment turned out.
I heard the @wander team is on the hunt for design engineers, so I made some custom artifacts focused around their Watchmere property to show some enthusiasm: wander-artifacts.vercel.app
What's inside:
1. A flow for extending your stay with ease to make that "I wish we could stay longer" moment a reality in a few clicks.
2. A dynamic postcard that shows a view of the property that morphs from day to night.
3. A deck of digital cards that can be shared with arriving guests so the person who booked doesn't have to field all of the questions from various parties.
A nice touch in 3, I used LLM-powered voice generation to create a personalized, dynamic welcome message for guests.
It offers tailored recommendations on how to make the most of the property and explore neighborhood activities, incorporating the weather forecast for the duration of their stay to make the experience even more relevant and engaging.
Really love the work the team is doing and hope to hear from you all soon!

“You can be wildly optimistic about what’s possible and still be ruthless about what’s real. In fact, the optimism only matters if you’re willing to protect it from nonsense.”
I feel like this is the minority now and this is the piece that actually matters. Everyone is out here making promises and claims and telling you exactly what’s possible and profitable now and when things settle and you ask them, they find magnificent ways to say “I have no idea wtf is going on”.
One of the most important things I’ve done has been letting go of defining myself by a role. I did this last week. And it immediately opened up the things I’m working on and how I see now and the future.
“If you were to start over again today, what skills, tools, or frameworks would you focus on learning?”

Legit question: how does anyone on either side of this make it anywhere?
238 likes, 115 comments, AI bots assumed. This just seems like complete overwhelm.
We need a new way to do this.
whats everyone's general consensus right now between Claude and Codex? I've stuck to Codex because I remember early with Claude getting limits soooo early. Wondering if that's changed.
Every tech brand struggling with story needs to look to fashion brands.
There’s clear crossover, to me. I think tomorrow I’ll finally write the piece I’ve been meaning to get out of my head.
I love how I went from content marketing because it was grossly undervalued in the job market and took years to learn to program only for LLMs to commoditize things and now all of a sudden companies need people so are good at content and think the technical part is the easy part.
I totally downplay the importance of doing this since it’s not tech related. But taking this from imagination to done is the skill that I think will break everything out moving forward, even in the tech space.
Love this. I think I’m more the architect. I love to get things down to that sweet spot. But I feel this so much. I’m love the idea of smaller, more impactful orgs.
I decided there actually doesn't need to be a new surface for the Seinfeld experiments. I can just make them another part of home.

Ish gets it. This is how it goes. And this is why no one is finding this person. This person prioritizes care and craft. And that doesn’t mean they can’t scale, it just means they don’t want to be a suit. So you might see something that appears to be stagnant. They just know their value.
And they’ve been waiting for the moment when they can break through the noise while everyone thinks scale (by sheer volume) is the answer.
This is not a linear path. But if you give people an open look, you will see something you can’t put into a clear box. And that’s a signal, not a flaw.
look for the intern with 15 years of experience
there's a select group of people in content, social, marketing, & comms who intentionally chose to continue doing the work instead of moving high up the management chain
by staying close to the work, they built up their craft, taste, can still create, are probably up to date on AI, won't crack under pressure, and can operate flawlessly since they have been doing it for over a decade
what this looks like on a resume:
"social media manager" or "content marketer" or some mix of the two + comms who has been in a few roles where they have been forced to execute (not just manage people who did the work). Sometimes this person will have a "head of" or "lead" title but they chose to stay within their niche (instead of expanding and diluting their skillset). If you dig you will notice that they still do the work (sometimes also manage a small team) - like a player-coach.
maybe they worked at a few startups, a bigger company, a cutting edge/fast paced company -- the mix of these three is higher signal than someone with only experience in 1 type of company
when interviewing this person, everyone from the CEO to their potential peers should leave the conversation feeling like they learned something new
Releases like this are going to continue to kill startups. I think the biggest wins are not going to be in these utilities. The wins are going to be vertical and deeply embedded in smaller businesses.
As far as enterprise, they’ll eventually make the play to just build internally with it the same way they do now with internal technical teams.
Anyone building utilities though: it feels like you blow up and they see you and they kill you because you’ll never beat them on distribution.

I want to meet more people building in SF. I want to know what the startup culture is like out there. But not in a startup per se. Like among the builders. I have a little bit of NY vibes but the Boston vibes (where I am) seems so oddly… academic and super focused on Boston, not vibes or culture.
Like no one in New York constantly talks about how great New York is for building. No one in SF is constantly talking about how great SF is as like part of growing their company.
But out here seems to be all about Boston, the same like 30 or so people with money and clout, and everyone else trying to get into rooms with them and everyone else.
And I want something to break. I want this space to feel fun and find an identity that isn’t just self proclaiming Boston to be awesome.
Help!
