I have to disagree with @LucyMPowell comments at the Education Select Committee on Ofsted's current problems, being 'no one's fault'. The new Framework was introduced to address previous serious weaknesses in both its construction and implementation. Faults lie with leadership.

This is getting mad. The police should not be policing words.
ARRESTED WITH SARAH HELM'S WORDS A woman has just been arrested outside the US Embassy in London for holding a sign with words mirroring the ones that the National Security Advisor's wife tweeted, and for which @metpoliceuk declared "did not meet the criminal threshold".

Strong statement from Ed Miliband. Anyone who invests in E1 settlement tendering process & with construction in illegal settlements will face sanctions. Let's hope at least 4-year prison sentences as the non-violent climate protestors currently in prison.

When was the last time that any of presenters on @BBCr4today, or indeed anywhere @BBCNews, made an equally passionate stand for the right to a safe home for Palestinians after their dispossession and genocide? I can't remember one of them risking their job to call for justice
"Do you think that the state of Israel, as a safe home for Jews after the Holocaust and after the pogroms, has a right to exist?" @bbcnickrobinson repeatedly asks Green Party leader Zack Polanski.

This Dispatches episode is very important for understanding what happened behind the scenes during the Israel arms licensing process. It should be watched in full, but I want to draw attention to one aspect in particular, where the whistleblower Mark Smith, who was involved in

A government cannot balance its current budget while starving the economy of the investment it needs. That is not fiscal prudence, it is deferred economic insecurity – and the UK’s lagging public and private investment are its outcome. New post on what fiscal rules are actually for. Link in replies.

I keep hearing stories about primary age children in English schools, 'hating writing'. Why? I know why: because primary school writing has become a matter of jumping through hoops which require you to lever in so-called grammatical features in order to reach the 'expected level'

Important to play ball not man. On day that England’s maths success is recognised worth considering the Progress 8 score at @vicgoddard’s flagship school Passmores Academy - students there are not being given the opportunities they deserve

Retired IDF Colonel Doron Meinrath was arrested today by the IDF for protecting a Palestinian community in Khirbet a-Tawil in the occupied West Bank from settler violence. The IDF arrested him after declaring the area of a water cistern he was protecting a "closed military zone". Doron is one of several thousands of Israeli activists risking their health and freedom to serve as "protective presence" against settler terrorists. timesofisrael.com/liveblog_e…

Anything to notice here?
One of the most brutal scenes in human history has been exposed. This video shows three young men trying to help an injured person, but Israel bombs them with a missile, killing them all. A moment the world must never forget.

Under 14 years of Conservative-led governments (2010 to 2024), UK public sector net debt (excluding public sector banks) grew by roughly £1.57 trillion, rising from about £1.08 trillion in May 2010 to approximately £2.65 trillion when they left office in mid-2024.
Don't let them pull the wool over your eyes. This is just more borrowing, which means more debt, and more interest payments. Labour can't be trusted with the economy or the public finances, because they don't understand either.
