Friday is the funeral service for Uncle B… as a dedication, I composed a continuation piece that reflects this somber mood.
“Wreckwe” is a twist on the word Requiem (the funeral mass, translating to “rest” in Latin)… here, we have an abbreviated respelling reflecting the piece itself…a short piece, uncustomarily integrating solemn organ with groove…
This piece is actually a “second derivative” from the main groove of tune “Uncle B” from LoopOfTheWeek no. 2… In contrast, the track “Uncle B” (mostly) reflected the jubilance of his life…
Then, from that main groove, a yet-to-be-recorded outro variation was developed, which was heavier and slightly more dramatic… And now, this piece was drawn out from that to reflect the current situation. 🙏
It makes me think how, from death to life, we can pick things up where they’ve been left off, and with honor, can make something further from what has been... 🙏
#LoopOfTheWeek is a weekly series, wherein I make a quick 1-2 minute composition in looping format, and share it in the week. I briefly explain the emergent process, mindset, inspiration, and/or concept behind that week. I look forward to staying in this creative groove and connecting with all of you ✌️

I decided to write this week’s composition based on the following aesthetics: performed and effected arpeggiated synth phrasings, live percussion, analog-inspired synth-drum sounds, deep bass, and piano leads…
Why did I choose this aesthetic? Because today is the release of our collaborative record “Precipice” with Enter Horizons! And those are the exact aesthetics of the record… I’m even wearing the same shirt from the session! 😱😆. (FYI, it’s Indonesian…)
This composition roughly “begins” where the album finishes: if you listen to the full 5-track EP (it’s streaming as “Precipice” by Enter Horizons), you might imagine as a kind of “continuation” of the last track, “Aurora Veniet”…
I asked myself: “If Aurora Veniet had ANOTHER distinctive section… where might it go?” Don’t get me wrong, the composition on the record is totally complete as is, and we are super happy with it. But as I was playing with the progression of B section of the song, I naturally and slowly started re-shaping it note by note, until suddenly, it became something entirely new… 🚣♂️
A little more about the new record: “Precipice” is a group project featuring E Scott Lindner (@escottlindner, ambitar reaktor and guitar), Caio Carvalho (live board effects mixing), Thiago Trad (brazilian percussion), Jim Panels (@keammo1, analog modular synth drum programming), and myself on rhodes, prophet-6, piano, and moog sub37. 🖐
Enjoy your fall y’all and enjoy the tunes! 🩳

synths <> symphonies
#LoopOfTheWeek #4: “Ascension”
There is a special “partnership” between synths and symphony… like textures of the past and future, meeting in the present…
That underlying theme (past-present-future theme) is exactly what was reflected to me whilst completing this week’s composition…
To begin: as this music was coming together, the term “Ascension” arrived in my mind…
Then, out of interest, I went to re-visit the biblical passage on Christ’s ascension, to further explore…
To my surprise (and I say this with respect), I actually interpreted a portion of it with a tinge of humor! After Christ rose into the sky, a few robed men nearby said to apostles, something along the lines of (paraphrasing) - “why are you still looking clouds? - he’e gone!” It was almost as if, this were kind of semi-regular occurrence, and they were conveying something like - hey buddy, c’mon, get on with it!
I know that is not the -absolute core- of the story, or even a fully contextualized interpretation of that event (as the men then spoke of further prophesies), but it functioned for me in a unique way: I realized that this music was my way of dealing with a kind of “phase 3” of death.
Two weeks ago, I made a track celebrating the life of my late Uncle: how he lived, and missing him being around (past). In last week’s track, I felt the shock of needing to seize the moment during the fleeting life (present). And this week, it’s more about allowing an actual departure to sink in, knowing that he is being taken care of in the next form and fashion (future).
I am realizing more than before that music has a way of telling me about parts of my own subconscious story. I am sure this is true for many others… music is not just about listening to the actual sound itself, but listening to that quiet purpose it is providing for you… do you hear it?

The phrase “Don’t Z-Coast” (“Don’t Zombie Coast”) spontaneously came up in conversation this week with a good friend and collaborator, Blamah Sarnor. TLDR: we were reminding each other not to mindlessly “zombie coast” through life, as there is something real happening in each moment…
We had been speaking about the shock of life events that can act to snap you back into gear… even a time of suffering, as difficult as it is, becomes a kind of proof of humanity: it reminds you that you're *real* - this moment is real - it’s all coming from a place that is as real as it gets. 🙏
At its musical core, this track has a melody designed around a rhythmic ostinato. I think, perhaps, that idea subconsciously came in as a kind of “pulse” representing continuity of attention (rhythm), whilst also being reminiscent of the reality of life’s natural variations (melody)… And, these days, I’m enjoying grit on the rhythm section… 🤛
The piece is really in 5/4, but I actually treated it as 5 bars of 4/4 on the looper, as the full phrase evenly repeats anyways at that length.

It often feels as though we are leaving music droplets within the universe. We don’t control exactly where they end up… a droplet might find itself in a river, or maybe, it evaporates back into the sky… it might reach the soil beneath a plant, or it might quench the thirst of a dweller… maybe, it breaks a dam… but we make those droplets… we love the work, we love the process. 💧
Our recent drop, Lunar Sojourn, found its way within these blog homes, across a collection of languages. Thank you very much for sharing the music, @visualatelier8, #distopicit, @djolo_net, @rmaspodcast, and @moochilatv❕
