In the pursuit of agricultural excellence, we recognize extension workers as the educators of our farmers. In the recent Wheat farming initiative in Hadejia, 1700 extension workers were trained. Dr. Marcus, a distinguished figure from the Norman Borlaug green revolution in Mexico and India in the 1970s, led a team in Zaria for a farmers' training seminar. Acknowledging the paramount importance of extension services, we are strengthening research institutes to develop high-yield, short-duration seed varieties. We are working with the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy to leverage technology, such as GSM and communication platforms, to disseminate crucial information to farmers in their local languages. Digital platforms will play a pivotal role in extending advisory services and promoting sound agronomic practices. While encouraging exports for bolstering the country’s revenue, we emphasize the need to curb illegal exportation, ensuring that Nigerians benefit from our agricultural practices. The Customs have been confiscating a lot of commodities being smuggled out. It is noteworthy that exports are used to derive foreign exchange, but it is also important to satisfy domestic demands. To achieve a balance, we are committed to enhancing production for both local consumption and export, fostering collaborations with significant agricultural investors. Our ambitious goal includes cultivating 1,000,000 hectares of land throughout the year, employing high-yield seeds, quality inputs, and fertilizers. We aim to incentivize farmers for optimal production, implementing interventions with multiplier effects, as demonstrated in communal farming. In our pursuit of making farming appealing to the youth, we embrace mechanization and technology. Today, drones are being deployed for fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides application, as well as the transportation of farm produce from one farm to another. Also, Agribusiness emerges as a key factor in captivating the interest of our dynamic youth in the agricultural sector. So while encouraging them to farm, we also enlighten them on its financial benefits through facts and figures.
