Mahad and south Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Goa seeing moderate rains this afternoon

With #NEMonsoon set to make an onset over Peninsula tomorrow (15th Oct), #Goa and south #Maharashtra will see their first #NEM rains and thunderstorms from 17th Oct ⛈️
Initially scattered late afternoon/evening activity for Goa, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Solapur and Dharashiv.
By #Dussehra, moisture will be advected north, spreading NEM rains to more of Madhya Maha including #Pune, north #Konkan including Raigad and #MMR and parts of Marathwada. More info this weekend.

Arghh. Not a good news. No moisture pull expected over Maharashtra reducing chance of widespread rain over the state as weather models are changing rain probabilities. Parts of South Maharashtra may still get rain. Mumbai, Pune to miss most of the rain as of now. Which means one more warm week ahead.

To those who are worried about Mumbai AQI. Many factors are playing a role here.
But from meteorological aspects, the temperature inversion is the primary factor for Mumbai AQI making it from bad to worse. All the pollutants are getting trapped over the city's atmosphere & shall improve in coming week.

Yes, deteriorating #AQI is caused by a seasonal weather phenomenon during late Oct onwards - Temperature inversion
We can see how a radionsonde profile of the atmosphere from this morning at Mumbai, shows how temp rises (instead of dropping) upto 1 km above the ground.
This is a normal anticyclonic effect that traps pollutants during the early morning hrs under negligible wind speeds, until the inversion cap breaks by noon or the sea breeze sets in.
AQI across MMR currently in Moderate category mostly
Today vs a normal day, the aqi seems to have taken a hit, @shetty_athreya is this due to weather phenomenon?
