WE are finally employed again. technically it's still retail but it's an office job and not customer service this time and the vibes have been really nice so far. i've also healed enough to stop caring about logging into hsr daily. been busy with irl stuff and reading a lot :)

& when the publishing industry that was just starting to find its footing is suffering another crisis because millions of books were destroyed in the aftermath of russian attacks. talking to these library workers & seeing so much love was incredibly replenishing to me.
i really can't explain to you how much it means, especially in times of war & despair, when your people, your culture, literature, & language are under constant threat of elimination & have been for centuries,
2) a lot of these contributions were made by the staff & the members of the community who just cared enough. there was this tiny exhibit showing traditional ukrainian household items & the lady was like "this was embroidered by my coworker, this one was carved by my grandpa"
& was highkey tearing up walking around different spaces, looking at exhibits & hearing about various community events from the staff bc 1) i didn't expect to see cultural life thrive at such a small scale. being chronically online would have you believe everyone is
went to sign up at a couple of our local public libraries with a friend yesterday (libraries haven't been a part of my personal life ever since i grew out of the children's/teen section & the closest one to my place was moved somewhere)
*two weeks of russian drones targeting specifically logistics hubs & networks, warehouses, factories, & malls (a lot of broadly retail-related stuff), the transit system & regular work across the entire city practically paralyzed because of frequent air raids & safety protocols
job market & general situation in the country* so bad i'm actually trying to get out of my comfort zone & look for career-building opportunities
sometimes i feel like people just send those out like a newsletter because what does any of that have to do with you or anything in your repertoire on here 😭
the shipping-centeredness of fandom culture & fandom's reputation as primarily (!) a safe haven and a space for self-expression for queer people sometimes limits people's ability to interpret works broadly & consider multiple contexts and interpretations at once
tiny addendum that the inherently transformative nature of this kind of transplanting of traits/symbols/elements/etc is what makes deliberately intertextual and derivative works (fanfiction as one of the manifestations) so cool and fun
it's def smth i have a lot of fun thinking abt but since it's such a broad topic, i can only do it over an extended period of time & as a continuous process without really arriving at any definitive answer, so [pic] is only a snapshot of smth that's at the forefront of my mind rn
