I wish I could show my English teacher this picture who put me out of her classroom and told me I’d end up in jail for falling asleep in her class after sleeping in a park the night before. 3 books and one translated into Portuguese. Preorders: a.co/d/bTHE4Kp

I’ve learned that dignity isn’t just about what we believe about people. It’s also about how we treat them, how we speak about them, and whether we make room for their humanity 🙏🏾😮‍💨 Platform: The Just Life w/ @BenjaminSWatson

I keep thinking about the millions of children whose access to food has been cut or is now at risk because of changes to SNAP.

And I keep thinking about how education has been stripped of funding due to recent policy changes that are already impacting students in schools that were already under-resourced, while the children inside them are carrying more than they should ever have to.

I’m grateful for the invitation to join my sister, Dr. Marlena Graves, and the seminary community for a conversation about what it means to stand in solidarity with those who are most vulnerable in our society.

I’m looking forward to sharing about the importance of proximity, justice, and what it means to embody compassion in this moment. #lovebeyondwalls

Everything can be traced back to power because nearly every aspect of our lives is affected by public policy. From education and housing to healthcare, the cost of living, and access to basic necessities, decisions made by people in positions of power have real consequences for families and communities. And those consequences do not disappear when an election is over.

Not too long ago, I had the opportunity to join @IAmPoliticsGirl for her 200th show to talk about homelessness, stigma, and human dignity.

Being unhoused doesn’t make someone less human or less worthy of compassion and respect. Our circumstances should never determine how we treat someone who has nowhere to go.

A land can never be discovered if people already called it home. And it is deeply troubling that as book bans continue to rise, generations of people are still being taught to celebrate Columbus for discovering land that Indigenous people already called home.

And this year, the same administration working to erase Black and Indigenous history from classrooms published a formal proclamation celebrating Columbus as a hero.

This is what it has always looked like when power gets to decide whose story gets told and whose gets buried. Never let the whole truth be silenced by those whose version of history depends on lies.

Veterans, older adults, people living with disabilities, and millions of others who depend on food assistance are all being impacted at a time when nearly everything is expensive and people are trying to figure out day to day how they will survive. Any society that lets people go hungry while protecting the comfort of those with access reveals exactly what those in power actually value.

One month into post-production, and I’m determined to get our first feature film about homelessness out into the world. I’ve come a long way from living on the streets of Atlanta to directing our organization’s first film, and these BTS photos reminded me of my why! #lovebeyondwalls #OneMoreMile

Women deserve to live in a world where they feel safe. Not questioned. Not blamed. Not asked to make themselves smaller so everyone else can stay comfortable.

Gas is high. Groceries are high. Rent is high. Healthcare costs are high. Evictions are rising. Unemployment is rising. Food insecurity is rising. Homelessness is rising. Poverty is being criminalized. The wealth gap is increasing by the day. Mental health needs are growing by the day. Exhaustion is everywhere. And somehow, people are being asked to carry all of this while pretending everything is normal. This is not normal. This is a public health crisis.

These days, if it's not real, rooted in love, and genuinely concerned about whether the most vulnerable among us are protected and have what they need to live with dignity, I'm not interested.
