The US Census has never asked about religion, but the 1870 Census did collect data on "religious organizations."
Here's a map showing the religious group with the most organizations by state. At this point, Methodism (purple) was the dominant religious group.

I assumed exotic bird introductions were a relic of the distant past but apparently the federal government tried introducing dozens of foreign game birds between 1948-1970, and basically all of them failed. I wrote about the Foreign Game Introduction Program in my latest post.
