I've been dealing with niche Pokemon cards for decades. Staff, Prerelease, and tournament stamped cards . Promos. High grade reverse foils. Stuff like that. I've downsized the Pokemon side of my business considerably, but I still have a decent chunk of niche stuff. I decided to take a lot of my niche stuff down temporarily and re-list with the recent Coinbase announcement and increase my prices substantially. The amount of offers coming in over the last couple of weeks is NOT NORMAL. Especially WHO the offers are coming from. Usually when dealing in this category, you interact with people who are master setting a certain set, stamp, or Pokemon. They usually have a decent amount of feedback, often shoot a message asking if I have anything similar and mention what they're collecting, and a lot of the time have an avatar or username matching what they collect. But these last few weeks... minimal to no feedback offers from generic sounding accounts offering WAY beyond what I've received in the past. Suddenly my Metang that no one wanted at $150 is getting offers at $400? Suddenly non-holo promos that would sell maybe a few times a year for $20-30 are selling out within a few minutes of listing them for $250? Cards that no one would bat an eye at before are getting multiple offers a day. The transactions are all legit too. Haven't had any issues. But something is just weird. It doesn't feel natural. Are these actually fans? Speculative buyers? Or are there really 'swarms' of people out there working for these gacha sites that are just buying up even the most ridiculous stuff? Not really sure why I'm sharing this. Just an anecdote. But I found it interesting. I think I'm ready to exit on all the niche Pokemon stuff I have. The demand right now is unlike anything I've seen. All this cardboard isn't truly worth this much.
