I’ve spoken to over 50 people 1:1 over the last several months to better understand how they code with AI.
It’s an absolute mess.
Here are the top 8 mistakes I see.
0:00 - Intro
1:19 - Mistake 1: Talking to 2026 models like they’re 2025 models
2:43 - Mistake 2: Devising funky metaphorical factories to orchestrate your agents
3:59 - Mistake 3: Treating context as sacred
6:02 - Mistake 4: Treating previous conversations as sacred
7:59 - Mistake 5: Having a todo list
10:00 - Mistake 6: Using funky tools
13:47 - Mistake 7: Stressing over code quality
24:27 - Mistake 8: Using branches and worktrees

Change a few DuckLake defaults and you get a 30% speed boost. Partition and cluster well and the gains can be bigger.
Matt Martin and I just finished the performance optimization chapter of the @OReillyMedia Definitive Guide, and we're giving it away!

Everything runs client-side in the sidebar. No backend.
Maybe the small beginnings of a BI tool, with GSheets as the frontend

I put DuckDB-WASM in a Google Sheets sidebar.
Attach Parquet, Avro, PBIX, SQLite, GeoJSON and a bunch of other formats, query them with DuckDB, then write the result straight into the workbook.
It also works with httpfs/S3, DuckLake and Iceberg.

I was talking to a friend about serving customer-facing dashboards with just Cloudflare R2 & Hyparquet for range queries ~ no db required. Turns out it's fast!
first time I haven't reached for DuckDB for this use in while, though naturally I did use it to build the datacube

Probably my favourite part of PBIXRay: select a PBIX file in Finder, press Space, and get a glimpse of its model and report structure without opening the app.

PBIXRay wants your ABF files 🫵
New in pbixray: you can now inspect .abf files directly from Python.
Working with PBIP? Inherited a project? Found yourself staring at a cache.abf wondering what’s inside?
You no longer need to restore it first.
Peek into the model, metadata, partitions, and extract the data you need.

Watch how VertiPaq reorders a table, step by step.
Is it the most optimal ordering?
Probably not, as this is an NP-hard problem.
Is it fast? Mmmm kinda..

PBIXRay v0.5.0 can now parse XLSX files!
⚠️ Only spreadsheets with embedded data models ⚠️
So... can we still call it Power Pivot?

Search every version of your Revenue DAX definitions
across all PBIX files
in sub-second time
with DuckDB and the new pbix2vpax() scalar function

What if there was a function to peek at the vpax of a pbix file?
Or a folder of pbix files.
Coming soon to a duckdb instance next to you.

Connect DuckDB to any data source -- Snowflake, MS Access, you name it.
Just use ODBC:
1. install the proper ODBC drivers
2. load the nanodbc extension from the community
3. query/scan/attach your data from the comfort of your DuckDB instance
++ cross-platform
