“Officers were responding to a shoplifting call alleging that Wiley’s mother, Vellesiya Wiley, and Latoya Ferrell had stolen a pack of diapers.”
This is unacceptable. This baby died over a resource that should be free. Absolutely disgusting to call this justified.
The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi attorney general’s office announced mississippifreepress.org/pol…

Maryam Ahmed Ghanem is being treated at Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital for second-degree burns to her face and body, and smoke inhalation, a year into the so-called ceasefire, after an Israeli strike murdered her 33-year old mother in the middle of the night Wednesday.
Three-year-old Maryam Ahmed Ghanem watched her mother burn to death while flames surrounded her. At around 4am on Wednesday, an Israeli occupation airstrike hit their apartment in Gaza City and set it on fire while the family slept. Journalist Ali Al-Jaafarawi heard her screaming, fought his way through the smoke on his third attempt and carried her out. Her mother, Reem, was 33 and did not survive. Maryam’s father was killed at the start of the genocide, and her grandmother is now all she has left. She is lying in Al-Shifa Hospital with second-degree burns and smoke in her lungs. This happened a year into a ceasefire. Remember her name.

Oscar Bergal was shot by ICE in my district last Thursday, then pulled out of the hospital by ICE while still needing surgery. His lawyers say he’s in solitary with the bullet lodged in his neck, his face is numb, and he’s losing hearing in one ear. This is atrocious and inhumane, but it’s not a mistake. It’s yet another example of ICE working as designed. We don’t need another few years of broken safeguards. We need to abolish ICE.

There are zero rigorous, peer-reviewed studies suggesting that the FDA should roll back access to medication abortion. On the contrary, a large body of gold standard evidence strongly supports removing the unnecessary restrictions that already exist.

Today, we've learned that White House officials have instructed the DOJ to move slowly on rolling back abortion access until after the midterms to avoid unwanted attention and alienating voters.
But, after November, the “gloves will be off.”

I wrote abt the campus SA crisis that never went away despite the public moving on after the Obama era; the material ways SA punishes victims the rest of their lives while assailants are systematically rewarded; & just tried to put to words what I think is going unsaid right now:

Our recent amicus brief from 300+ reproductive health researchers extensively details how the anti-abortion junk science behind the latest attempts to block access to medication abortion is, to put it frankly, "plagued by fundamental analytical errors.” ansirh.org/research/research…

Immigration law is infamous for its impossible hours and laughable salaries, but since early 2025, the sense of purpose that animates so many immigration attorneys has been tested by the federal government’s efforts to target them—and their budgets.
The ensuing chaos nearly broke them. motherjones.com/politics/202…

One of the most important immigration cases in a generation. The Trump admin claims a 1996 law mandated the detention of millions without a right to seek bond, yet no one noticed until 2025.
A victory would greenlight mass detention at levels not seen since Japanese internment.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court has agreed to rule on the legality of ICE's mandatory detention policy, weighing in on an issue that has been ovewhelmingly rejected by district and appeals courts but has nevertheless roiled the justice system nationwide.
