📣 The ICTU Public Services Committee has agreed to suspend the 21 October strike.
Following intensive engagement, including direct intervention by the Taoiseach, a new process led by former Labour Court Chairman Kevin Foley will seek to establish the basis for formal WRC negotiations.
Workers organised. That created leverage. Now we need to turn it into a settlement.

The Government knew the public service agreement expired on 30 June. So why are workers being blamed for the delay? 🤔
The €1.2bn is for 2027. You can’t pay October’s bills with next year’s budget.

📣 IFUT Executive Committee to Consider Preparations for Industrial Action Ballot
IFUT has convened an exceptional meeting of its Executive Committee on Friday, 10 July, to consider the union's response to the continuing absence of progress towards a successor public service pay agreement.
The meeting follows a decision of the @irishcongress Public Services Committee, representing public service unions across Ireland, to ask affiliated unions to convene their national executives and consider arrangements for ballots for industrial action following the expiry of the Public Service Agreement 2024–2026 on 30 June.
Should the Executive Committee decide to proceed, members may be asked to participate in a ballot seeking a mandate for industrial action, up to and including strike action, in pursuit of:
☑️ Securing an acceptable pay settlement covering the remainder of 2026 and any successor public service agreement;
☑️ Ensuring the completion and implementation of outstanding claims arising under the Local Bargaining provisions of the previous agreement;
☑️ Resisting the unilateral imposition of changes to work practices, organisational structures or terms and conditions without the agreement of the union.

Over recent months, IFUT has been actively engaging with members in the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies at @uniofgalway regarding proposals for Undergraduate Curriculum Transformation.
The process began against the backdrop of a public narrative which suggested an urgent crisis in Arts education and the need for significant structural change. From the outset, IFUT challenged that framing and argued that any discussion about the future of Arts should be grounded in meaningful consultation with staff, robust evidence and a clear recognition of the enduring value of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies.
Following a series of meetings with members, the establishment of a representative working group and subsequent engagement with University management, IFUT has now secured a Memorandum of Understanding governing how the process will proceed.
While much work remains to be done, the agreement establishes important protections for staff and creates a formal framework through which concerns can be raised and addressed.
